I need a winter tire that is not only good in snow, but can hold up to the long drive from Texas to Colorado and back. Also need tires that are good for mud/ slush. All the neighborhood roads are inside national forest and are not paved. so it is either snow packed, loose dirt, or mud in the winter.
Try performance winter tires.

For that price point id go with a nokian hakkapelliitta, but pass on the studs unless youre on ice that often.

Never liked the blizzaks outside of full tahoe winter conditions, hated how they felt and wore when it wasnt dumping snow. XI 3 were never popular here in the west as much as the others, heard they cake up with deep or fluffy snow more than others, i think theyre more suited to ice, like east or midwest.

Honestly though, its hard to beat a nokian tire. There are plenty of other good ones out there but nokian has had it right for a long time.

I have the X-ICE tires since winter 2017/2018 on my wrx. First set of winter tires and have them on my stock 18's except in 225/45 R 18. They work great and grip well. No complaints and would buy again. Got them at discount tire when they had their seasonal deals.
