Coming Soon: New Audi TT Will Debut in U.S. as 2008 Model

Date posted: 06-15-2006

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Audi of America confirmed on Wednesday that there will be no 2007 model of the Audi TT and that the all-new TT coupe and roadster will arrive in the United States as 2008 models.

They will feature the 2.0T turbocharged four-cylinder engine and 3.2 narrow-angle V6 engines and six-speed manual and S tronic transmissions.

The automaker said the technological highlights of the TTs will include an aluminum and steel space frame and a "magnetorheological" suspension that automatically adjusts for different ride and handling situations.

Audi says its 2007 U.S. lineup will have "an emphasis on sportiness." For example, the 2007 A3 2.0T will now have an S line package that replaces the sport package from 2006. The new S line gets more aggressive front and rear fascias and S line badging on the exterior.

The A3 also has a new technology package. The A3 2.0T technology package includes a light and rain sensor, a Bluetooth hands-free phone system, auto-dimming interior mirror and bi-xenon headlights with adaptive front lights; the 3.2 technology package includes Bluetooth and the bi-xenon headlights.

The 2007 A4 3.2 gets a standard sunroof, new standard 17-inch 3.2-specific five-spoke wheels from Quattro GmbH and standard shift paddles on the steering wheel on all automatic models.

The 2006 A6 Avant now gets an optional S line package. A 19-inch wheel upgrade to the S line package is now optional for A6 quattro models.

Audi said it will launch the 450-horsepower 2007 S8 with the 5.2-liter V10 FSI engine this fall. In addition, the Bang & Olufsen advanced audio system will now be available on all A8, W12 and S8 models. The A8L W12 also gets a new option: 20-inch seven-double-spoke wheels.

What this means to you: Audi highlights performance with its '07 U.S. lineup — and doesn't include the TT.

2008 model out in 2006?
This is getting ridiculous!

Also, are they talking about an S3? Or some kind of appearance package?

that design isn't nearly as timeless as the orginal... it was a tough act to follow.

Still no pricing on the 07 S4.. and although its been known for a while, its a shame the 4.2 in the S4 will be without FSI.

I like that "an emphasis on sportiness" means badging and front and rear fascias.

just like fog lights and sun roofs are part of sport packages. hehe.

i think audi means that the front and rear fascias mimic their racing cars.. hence its sporty...

S-Tronic "automatic" Does this mean no DSG?

Edit: NM S-Tronic is apparently Audi's new name for DSG, and the article mistakenly refers to it as an automatic.

In NA we won't see the new A5 platform TT until '07. That's a good thing as the Europeans can do our beta testing. I like the idea that the 2.0t TT will weigh less than 2800 lb... should be much improved in handling. OTOH, no LSD in the front

The S-Line A3 is your basic sports suspension & rubber with a bunch of extra plastic hanging off the body of the car so Audi can really dial up the price. I doubt that we will see the real S3 in NA. Considering what the A3 3.2 model costs, I'm not surprised... an S3 would be probably north of 40k and not far from the cost of then new BMW 335i and well above then next gen STI & Evo.

I could see it priced in the high 30's. The S4 is $47K, so I don't see why an S3 would be similarly priced.

A fully optioned A4 with S-line is about the same cost of a base S4. A fully optioned A3 with S-line is low 42k. I'd expect the S3 to be at least 40k.

Layman - I think I saw the S8 was coming out this fall and assumed they were talking about the TT. That's the best excuse I have.

I agree, the S3 will be atleast that. I also agree that the A4 can be optioned to a very high price. I got mine for 35k and I could have tagged on 5k more with S-Line and navigation.

You're totally right, but I bet they don't have any interior rattles.

And the transmission won't blow up on a carefully driven stock motor...

Or have flat seats...

...because performance is EVERYTHING in a car.

Does your car drive itself? I dare say you would have atleast a little trouble shaking off B7 A4 with chip /exhaust/ suspension.

Longevity I cannot comment on for this car (engine is very new and I only have 9500 miles) but the 2.0T's in Europe have been aging much better than Audi's from early 2000's. I will agree, though, that Subaru has a much more reliable track record than Audi. I would be surprised if Audi could ever match that.

Actually, if you re-read my post, I'm referring to VALUE.

You know, it's that thing that buyers of Kraut cars hate to talk about...

Besides, Matt, for the length of time that you've been around here you should know by now that WRX trannys DO NOT self-destruct. Shame on you for presenting bull**** as fact.

Can't disagree on the seats or rattles, though. Good thing I'm having too much fun driving to give a damn!
