The way things are shaping up with Subaru, there's a 1% chance I buy another new Subaru. No performance wagon or hatch. CVT all the things and make them bigger. Death of VTD...

The old car is an upgrade.

At least give us a proper offset from the factory! The sunken wheels look underneath a massive bloated greenhouse is getting old haha.

What does this mean?

No wagon or hatch knock says he wants practicality indicating a more mature buyer.

Too big and CVTs across the board indicates he wants fun...aka a younger buyer.

Which way were you thinking with that question?

Between the ages of 21 (my first WRX) and 35 (my last wrx), I'd side with him on both of those topics.

I am trying to understand 4S-Turbo's statements. Some context (like age) might help.

I see Subaru as being very hot these days, and getting even hotter with all the new models coming out. Obviously, not the same as you...

Again, don't know what your terms of reference are, but guessing that you are over the hill boy-racers, or at least once were wanna be's.

I hang out here because I want to learn about new Subaru products, but I gather that is not your purpose.

There's a mix of people on this forum. Some are subaru fanboys. Some are performance car fanboys. Some are just plain into cars. Some are into hatches, some sedans. Some into manuals, some into automatics. It's a fun conglomeration of people.

In many ways, Subaru has dropped doing the things that brought some of us to the brand in the first place.

Subaru has been focusing less on the performance end of things, so those of us who are less on the subaru fanboy side of things are a bit more critical of the new products, and even jumping ship from Subaru, just praying that Subaru changes it's ways and gets back to the stuff that got us all excited about subaru in the first place.
OK, I get that..., and does explain some of the statements. However, the world changes, and Subaru has to adapt if they want to survive, and thrive. These days utility is more important that raw performance, and Subaru has clearly recognized that's what people want nowadays.

That's not to say they won't come up with new performance machines, too. I'm sure we will see new iterations of that 2.4 engine down the road. But I think they have only so much development money to spend. And they need to be sure they don't get left behind in the EV game, or autonomous driving.

kinda like McDonalds - i'm sure at one time many years ago they served a tasty burger made of real meat. now they peddle trash to the masses.

when the WRX came out in the US in 2002, it was a performance bargain. not so much anymore.

Haha, I can't really disagree with this... Rarely go to McDonalds, but when I do still order the same Big Mac and Filet with choc milkshake. You're right, I don't think they are as good anymore, but sure costs a lot more.
Re the WRX, I have always thought they were a little overpriced for what you get in the car. Now it is just a lot worse. You have to be a real performance nut to want to pay for that...
But will be interested to see the production version of this STI concept. Will the attraction be looks, performance or price? Can't be all of those with Subaru,... haha.

There are benefits both ways. Couldn't fit something in my Legacy's trunk; so, went home and got my '08 STI. Fast forward, went on a trip with my '09 WRX sedan and was happy our stuff was secured in the trunk. ALL of our luggage. Did suck if we wanted something. We couldn't just reach over the back of the seat.

I "prefer" a hatch.

Exactly. This is what I've said before too. Hatches are only more practical if you put the back seats down. But then you can only carry one passenger. I'll always need back seats and my sedan has a bigger boot so as sedan will always win.

Whenever i need to carry big items once or twice a year i just borrow a truck. No drama.

Feel sorry for the dog. You'll be alright though. Just like this person.

There were no animals in the back of this car. Luckily.
