mileage would be helpful as well

first step is contact SOA customer service and get an "incident" number- you'll use this number throughout your dealings w/ them- call them and let them know, you know that this is a common failure (amongst the early build dates) and you want to insure that a full long block is installed, as well as a new turbo

after that is taken care of, you'll want to call back and tell them that your aware that folks are getting "gold" warranties (100k, $0 deductible, transferable) to help with any diminished value that comes w/ a engine failure

I just purchased a 09 WRX five door...have about 700 miles on it. It's my first subie, and am still getting "in tune" with it. I will keep you posted for any weird noises and/or engine failures.

4700~ miles on the car when it spun a bearing.

Don't let this thread freak you out backwoods, it's all about build dates, if you just purchased yours I'm sure you'll be fine. It's only WRX's built between July and Early September.

well I finally got my car taken care of. I told them I didn't want car back and after 2 weeks of talking to them I traded it in for a 09 grey 5 door. SoA ate $6300 paying off my first loan. So if your miles are low enough I think you should be able to get more then a $1200 gold warranty...

I just did an online search and really didn't find any information about this, other than article on autoblog and a couple of links to some threads on NASIOC and CLUBWRX.

Does anyone know if this issue has been resolved? I bought an 09 WRX 2 weeks ago. I currently have just over 1,000 miles on it. After a couple thousand more, I was really looking forward to going with a Cobb Stg2 package. Now, I don't even know if that'll be an option.

I love how the dealership "forgot" to mention this issue. Especially since I was speaking with them about going Stg2 directly through them (the dealership is Metric Subaru...the mods were going to be done at Metric Subaru Performance Tuning).

The Build Date on my car is 02/09. I wonder if I should be ok?!?

True. They have handled a 'disaster' pretty well. They havent been 100% forthright, but they have been fair.

AFAIK, nothing about this has been publicly released, so many dealers might not even know, or pretend to be blind to the situation since SoA has not made an official announcement. The trend appears to be affecting only 07/08-09/08 Build dates. I share this feeling of uncertainty also, but I have a 01/09 build date so I feel pretty confident that I'll be ok. 3700+ miles and going strong. I plan a stage 2 tune in the near future as well.

Mine was built 09/08.. I'm at 3,000 miles.. So now I'm starting to worry. I noticed the overall list only listed 2 failures for this build date.. But knowing my luck, I'll probably be unlucky.

wow this is worrisome. I just bought a 09 WRX a few hours ago. My build date is 02/09. I sure hope you guys are right that only 07,08,09/08s are affected. If any of the post 09/08s are faulty, we should see a lot of them fail at this present time now right?

There have been very few 08 WRXs or STis with reported failures along the lines of the 09 WRX (i.e. rod knock), so a list is not going to tell you much. Nothing not even remotely close to the 09 WRX.

My WRX developed the knock in April and died on 4/17/09. Engine threw a rod and clutch was destroyed, both replaced. The infuriating thing was being accused of "abusing" the car and wanting me to pay for the clutch.

Miles: 1514, VIN last six digits: 802520, manufacture date: 08/08, purchased in December 08. Hatchback.

I have not posted on this site before, I discovered it searching for issues with my WRX and noticed that I am not the only one with the problem. My WRX also drives a lot worse than it used to, doesn't have the power since the engine replacement, so there might be something else wrong as well. Talking to the dealership at the moment.

Maybe spoke to soon. The first start up of the day lately the car is rattling then after about 20secs stops(after some sort of whistling noise). The noise does not happen after that. Any advise on what this could be?
