Quickie questions on remote start, locking gas cap
One of the things on the wish list for my new baby is to install a remote start, so that on wintry days I can have the car warmed up before I ever leave the house. A place nearby advertises remote starts installed for $99. My car salesman said he wouldn't trust a cheap one, that I should spend $200 or so.
Can anyone here recommend (or warn me about) brands and models of remote starts? Also, I'd feel a lot safer if I had a locking gas cap. The salesman said these tanks are unsiphonable, but I worry more about sabotage. He told me to be sure and get a gas cap that seals completely. Any recommendations or warnings about locking gas caps? Thank you!!

Well $99 is probably only remote start and no alarm. Seems like you're worried about security if you're talking about the gas cap. I'd get an alarm with remote start, you get your piece of mind plus your remote start feature.
I'll speak from experience... I've owned a Viper 550ESP on my last car with remote start, awesome, love the range/quality. No problems with my Crime Guard that I installed myself on my last Jeep from Crutchfield, range wasn't as good, but never had a problem. |

I will second the Viper line. I have a Viper 500 ESP and the thing is a well featured product. Ensure it is installed by a qualityshop though or else your alarm will not function as well.

Keenan's right -- plan on spending more than $500 for a quality installation job.

Thanks, guys. I actually DON'T need an alarm -- just the remote start.

a good remote start is going to cost you atleast 300 beans. I recomend the Clifford alarm/remote. it's got some great options works great with a Manual Tranny and comes from a reliable Company.
