Default Just bought a 9-2x turbo!

Hi everyone,

Just bought a 2006 9-2x aero which from my understanding is a rebadged WRX from the same model year. Was looking for an AWD, Stick, under 60,000 miles, and Japanese, so this car fit everything. Coming from a 1990 240sx which was rusting everywhere despite a bulletproof engine and transmission...so sad. Anyway glad to be part of the AWD crew and was hoping to see if anyone had any suggestions as to what I should look out for/fix/replace when I finally get the vehicle? 51,000 miles btw, seems to have a good service history according to carfax, for whatever that's worth.

Won't need to fix anything if you take care of it... don't launch it, regular maintenence and care and it'll last you many more miles... are you planning any mods?

After all the modifications I made to my 240sx (overly loud exhaust, unnecessary intake, performance wheels and tires which always went flat, etc, etc) I'm looking to keep this one as close to stock as possible. I'm looking for a car that's fun but going to last, not something to race, and definitely something that's not going to attract the wrong kind of attention *cough* Definitely will drop in a new stereo, maybe intake/cat-back if simple, but that's pretty much it. Also rust-proofing. Lots of rust-proofing

a new intake will require a tune. You really shouldnt need a new intake unless you plan on making over 300whp. Well atleast the wrx shouldnt. I'm not sure how similar our cars are

Engine-wise, I believe it's exactly the same as the WRX, both being manufactured on the same assembly line. Here's a list of differences in case you were curious:

I had one of those, well...a 2005 9-2x with the 2.0L engine. Yours is better. It is a great, bulletproof car. But, my advice is be very, very careful not to break any Saab-specific parts since availability is iffy at best. For instance, good luck finding a replacement bumper for that car. Also, check whether your car has had the control arm recall done. They rust from the inside out and (sometimes) break.

Do some 06's have aluminum control arms just as there subaru counter parts do? The recall may not be necessary, but someone might know better.

The recall doesn't seem to be limited by VIN, so I suspect it applies to all 2006 9-2x:

This thread is pretty comprehensive:
