Default Loud Tapping that comes and goes

Hello all I have been lurking for a few weeks because I am seriously thinking about buying 04 sti that was traded in at my dealership. It is all stock other than coil overs with 122k miles and I was going to buy it monday but I was driving it tonight and out of nowhere under partial acceleration I heard a knocking sound but as i accelerated up to speed 75% throttle it went away .... so I pulled over checked oil it was a little low so i put some in and it did nothing so i drove it home and now its tapping under idle. I have been searching and assuming the worst that its a bearing BUT when I just went outside I started it and it was alot louder but i just waited and waited and after 45 seconds to a min it went away then about 2 min later it came back..... here is a link to what the sound sounds like
PLEASE help me out I have always wanted a STI but I dont know if i can afford a engine rebuild and the price of the car. I have searched for the last 4 hours by the way..... thank you in advance

I think the answer is really easy. Don't buy it.

Tell your work you'll buy it if they warranty the engine or just rebuild it before you take it. Or offer their asking price less the cost of a rebuild, they shouldn't sell that car as it is anyway.

It is also not 100% stock plus coilovers as it has a short ram intake and when did STIs come with gold intake manifolds? I thought they were red.

Sounds like a timing belt tensioner or pulley to me. Mine sounded the exact same way. Get a mechanics stethoscope and place it on the timing belt cover. If it is an idler you will hear it get amplified.

It's throwing o2 sensor and I can get it for 6500 -7000 but I just don't have the cash to get it and rebuild at the same time

If you are serious you need to take this to a well known Subaru mechanic and get him to go over the whole car. It's possible the timing belt has never been done and if that's the case you have a ticking time bomb. If the dealer is only asking that price then you can go back with any issues and get them to fix it before you buy it or drop the price the amount it would cost to fix. They are still making money no matter how good a deal you are getting so don't be afraid to do this

Well I work at the dealership so I'm getting it as is from them if not they are just going to auction it off. I'm pretty sure the motor is done I'm just going to pass up on my dream of having a sti for now and hope that something better Comes along
