I honestly love this car. Better l/100km mpg or whatever, then my 08. City summer in my 08 was like 400km a tank. Same drive in summer with the 12 was 635km avg. About the same dif in the winter. Again with highway same dif.
Area here is somewhat flattish but some major hills on the drive, plus small ones on the way. It's all good. No complaints minus the squeaky seat that I'll live with. Go subie go!

Got a 2013 w/CVT (maybe should add "2012+" to the thread title?). Have not done any calculating at the pump and still on my 2nd tank of gas. Screwed up the "hand calc" for the first fill up because I was messing with the trip/odo buttons. Yes, I need to RTFM and do it properly next time.
Based on what I've read in this thread, my rough estimate after subtracting 10% from the optimistic fuel mileage indicator on the dash comes out to 29/30 MPG avg. I drive like a grandmama though. Hope the fuel consumption figures improve as the motor breaks in, but, this is way better than my Mustang (18 MPG avg. tops ) and it can be filled with 87 octane gas .
Should try locating one of the gas stations around here with ethanol-free gas -for the boaters- to see if there is a substantial improvement.

I think that may be a major factor, since with the cvt it just doesn't have the oomph to stay in high gear under any but ideal (aka slow and flat) conditions with ethanol. A little more power and it could make a major difference, since when it downshifts it really sucks the gasoline. Leaving it in manual 6th means it slows a lot on minor grades. Less downshift is good.

Could it stem from the factory? The last couple of years have been tough for Japan. I dont know just saying.
Same state, same car, I'm lucky to get 25mpg on the interstate @70mph, with the cruise set

If you reset trip odometer after youre on the highway it has to read higher then that. 25 mpg has city miles mixed in there for sure.

If you makes you feel any better I am currently getting 14 MPG on the trip computer. I driven only short local trips with no highway. That probably puts me at 12 MPG calculated. I have 45 miles on 3/4 tank full.

Wow, that's V8 territory! That engine better be making at least 500whp.

Damn winter blend gas and the short trips are a killer. Filled up the other day, only driven about 30 miles on the tank -- short trip home, short trip to work, short trip back home, and a quick 'exercise run' tonight, and she's sitting around 23 MPG on the display. Definitely noticing a hit from the winter blend, even when it's not a short trip at all. She was showing under 20 MPG until I ran out tonight. Sad when the MPG's jump more in a half mile at 80 than it does in several miles at 30...

Me too. With the fuel, short trips & temps I'm averaging between 21-23 mpg in WNY.

Over 11 months and 8500 miles in WI, my average is 28.8 mpg. About a third of the mileage is from longer highway trips, with the rest around town. Was averaging 29-32 mpg for city driving over the summer; now getting 25-28 mpg during winter.

I filled up again last night, 23.6 mpg, avg speed was 30mph, I do about 50/50 hwy and city driving. I have an appointment next week with the dealer to have them look at it and do that reflash. Has anyone heard anymore about the reflash lately, and if it's helping or not?

What reflash? From early last year for cars with build dates of 12/11 & earlier? Mine had a build date of 10/11 & I ran the updates, they helped a bit. But the latest PZEV temp gauge update does nothing to change behavior of the car, it just effects the temp that needs to be reached for the warning light to come on.

Yea, the updates. Mine has a build date of 10/11, so I'd assume it qualifies. Did the updates helps your mileage at all?

It did. Not a huge amount but noticeable. The gear ratios "shift" differently after & the CVT behaves like you'd expect it to as far as RPMs on another automatic. It accelerates easier & has more pick up too as a result.

2012 Impreza Sport 2.0i. Mostly highway driving nets me 30-32 miles per gallon.

The car should also decelerate (foot off the gas) without causing a "downshift" where the rpms go north of 2.5/2.8k.

I friggin hate this car. 2013 SWP Sport Limited Moonroof/CVT. Willing to sell. No matter what I do I cannot break 30mpg. It has actually consumed me. My commute is about 20miles one way, mostly highway/bumper to bumper, and no matter how I drive.. I cannot break 30mpg Hand Calc.. screw the subaru trip computer.. thing is just dead wrong!!

My 2010 VW GTI 6spd was more fun, had better refinement, no rattles, a ton more power/torque, torque is the key to good MPG, handled better, and if driven the same way could easily break 30mpg. This the last Subaru I will ever buy.. gonna have to keep until warranty is close to running out and then probably going to buy the new MkVII GTI. I made a huge mistake, I needed an A/T transmission once Buick daily commter was totalled, did my research but to my own fault did not research enough I guess and actually feel violated by Subaru Of America for the innacurate MPG's this car can achieve.

If I could go back in time I would soo have kept the GTI. It is is a joke how off the MPG's are for this car. All these owners posting about getting well above 30mpg are either not hand calc or doing something that I am not aware of. We should all file a law suit. If anyone wants to be William Wallace.. I will gladly join the cause. Oh and by the way, my VW was a PZEV also.. but did not rev at 2k for 15mins and lose 4 mpg going a mile down the road.

Car is still on the lot.. go buy it.. I wish I could get it back, I am the original owner, even tried to trade the Impreza back to the clowns at Lester Glenn, offering them over 1k for usage for a car I had for not even 2mos and 1,500 but they tried to screw me for 4k in depreciation and told me that it was hit in parking lot there so I would not just travel and show up from NY to NJ to come get it and make a scene. I traded the VW in for 19k, worth more than that. I messed up, car was prestine and awesome. At least you will know that they paid 19k for the car.

Sorry for ranting... and if you love your imprezza, God Bless.. But for me this car falls way short on what was advertised all over the web and by reviewers. Truley Disapointed.

How fast is your commute? And it is winter so you lose 10-20% off your mpg because of crap winter blend

You only have 1500 miles, mine was getting better through 8000 miles until winter blend

As I type this I'm getting 26mpg going 65 in a 75 because of the 30mph headwind I'm driving in to. This entire tank seems to be against 20+ mph headwind and this is the first time I've slowed down

I really dont understand your question? I have almost 3k on the car now, and I have never worried about winter blend? My VW GTI was very consistent regardless, I have had new cars before, bottom line is this car is truley disapointing to me and probably many others. If you love your car, God Bless... And to be honest.. as you typed those numbers... you should be disapointed also. This car does not have enough torque. And SOA shoud have to pay for false advertising. There are better cars out there for the money. That is my opinion.

The 5 speed does much better than the cvt. Unfortunately there are people here who compare the 5 speed to the cvt here without understanding the difference...

Exactly.. the cvt is suppose to have better MPG's than the 5spd. If that was the case, I would have kept my 6spd, whole point of purchasing the 2013 Spt Limited was to keep leather, moonroof, most of the refinement and not have to sit in traffic with a stick. This car advertised all of that, and to me falls short drastically. Like I said.. if you love your car, enjoy the wheels out of it. I am not and will never buy another subaru again. Just sharing my feelings.

That really sucks that you're unhappy with your purchase. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I've been dissapointed all around with Subaru and the Impreza (this is also my first Subaru). I'm also always comparing my Subie with other cars that I've owned in the past, especially my MS6.

Thanks for the kind words.... not sure what an MS6 is? Mazda Speed 6? Either way.. I am sure there are more of us out there who made a purchase based upon false pretense. This car sucks!! I am soo out of this car as soon as I can. There is nothing mechanically wrong with the car.. just not what I expected based upon all the reviews and lies. Good Luck to all with your imprezzas,, mine is in no way a POS.. just was expecting alot more. Prob mostly my fault.

People generally buy cars by balancing a bunch of considerations. These days mpg is a big one. I would not have bought the Impreza had I known the mpg was so overrated. Other than that I love it, like my previous Subarus.
