I will upload some video when I get a chance. Video quality is ok, good for a $50 device IMO. Feel free to check youtube for videos in the meantime. I hear audio isn't good, I turned mine off.

I use a 32GB card. I feel like it starts overwriting after a few hours of recording.

I actually don't have a wire hanging down. I ran it up with the other rearview wire, under the headliner, down the A pillar, under the dash, and out the cubby to the cig lighter outlet. Very clean install, wire was plenty long. I'll take a pic.

I have the G1W - if you want to hardwire it, you need to take apart the cigarette lighter plug and add leads. The plug contains circuitry to limit the voltage to 5v over the usb connection. Isn't too difficult, just crack it open, solder on some leads and put it back together.

I also use a 32GB card, audio isn't half bad - it was able to pick up my voice when I was wearing a full face helmet.

I haven't tried it out at night yet - haven't been out and about after dark since I put it in.

So, the G1w if hardwired does not turn on just for motion/impact scenarios? You're saying it would have to be left on constantly while the car is parked?

Reviews of it for motion/impact aren't too great - people say it takes a little too much time to turn on and start recording. I wouldn't know - mine is hardwired to come on with the car, I bought it to record driving video and only wired it for that purpose.

It works , but seriously it works. I will not be removing the camera every time I park so I did not want the battery in there with the Florida sun beating on it, being black I am sure its getting to 150F+

This is currently how it looks, waiting on the rear mirror mount.

Light directly above and I used a flash so that why you can see it very well

I also have a OTG Adapter > USB SD Card Reader > SD Card to Micro Adapter in my car so I can view footage on my phone if needed.

Yep, only thing you can see from a little bit away is the suction cup mount, then as you get closer and really look you can see the camera, but it does blend in well. With the Mirror Mount I will receive sometime in the near future I am sure that will hide it much better.

I've found that people don't even notice these things. I think mine is pretty obvious, but friends tell me they can hardly tell, and they know I have one.

I guess since dash cams are not common place in the US, people aren't expecting to see one. I'm always on the lookout for others with them...always give the cam a wave and a smile if I do.

I installed a dashcam last week in my 2012 Impreza 2.0i 5 door. I was using a GoPro Hero2 mounted on the rearview mirror arm but decided to get a dedicated setup. I did internet research for a week and found out that the leading manufacturers of these type dashcams come from Korea, China, and Taiwan. The Chinese, and Taiwanese dashcams are easily knocked off and chances are you might get a fake camera, So I decided to get a Korean brand.

I chose the Pittasoft Blackvue DR500GW-HD. You can get an accessory that you hardwire into your fusebox that will cut off power to the camera if it's about to drain your battery or you set a timer to turn it off. I chose to wire thru the center console and use the provided cigarette adapter. When you turn off your car the dascham turns off.

It records 1080p, 156 degree diagonal viewing angle, Wi-Fi enabled, GPS enabled, 3-axis acceleration sensor. You can use a smartphone or tablet app to access the video files, do a live view, and to configure/setup. It doesn't come with a video out or screen so this comes in handy to frame your view when you adhere it to the windshield. The manufacturer also gives firmware updates, which I actually updated this weekend.

Here are some pics:

I have a 2015 wrx And I wanted to hardwire my dashcam using the harness thats used for the homelink rear view mirror. If I tap into that harness do you think that it would be enough power to power the dash cam?

Just meter it to be sure but it should be a 12 V switched source so that is what you are looking for.

I'm glad to see a thread like this going. It's kind of hard to get information on these thing, to be honest.

Here's my setup. I don't have any install pics (I've been lacking that and have had others asking).

Camera: Ojocam Pro Mini 0801

Power Source: Hardwired additional 12V sockets behind radio for accessories such as this

Mods: None

Storage: 16GB Card

I've been thoroughly impressed with this camera for the money. Can be had on Newegg for $87. Ran the power cord where the wiring for the autodim mirror. Cam has built in GPS, motion detection, etc.

Here's some videos:

I like the size and mounting of the dash cam you chose. Very stealthy. How does the cam connect to the phone/tablet? Wifi, Bluetooth? Can you save the video to the phone when it is connected? How long is the video? Sorry for all the questions, but I've been thinking of doing a dash cam since I saw this thread started a while ago, but I haven't had time to do any proper research. I have an iphone, so I'm not sure if that would be a limiting factor.

Hey guys, I'm using the Blackvue system with the front and rear cams. I really like it and it seems to be working great. I am also running the power magic pro so it can run while my car is parked. I will post some pics of mine when i get my car back in a couple of weeks. I also run a stereo shop in California and a company i have not heard of approached us with their product called Blackbox, it looks very interesting and some really cool features. Have you guys heard of it.

Which blackvue system are you using? I've been looking into it recently.

That sounds perfect! I don't want just a cam for an accident that might happen to my front end while I'm driving. I want my rear covered, especially while parked, otherwise I hardly see the value.

Edit: Just looked it up and saw the price. Now I understand.

I received the Mobius dash cam the other day through Amazon. Awesome dash for day time with 1080p/30fps and can also record narrow at 720p/60fps. No GPS but can loop record, has auto record with movement (as security cam) and the thing is the size of a tic-tac box. Got them from the same Spy-Tec vendor that sells the G1W on Amazon. It's on eBay as well with US shipping location.

Anyway I'll upload some video later. Night time with halogen lights is on the bad side but if you have HID or extra light output it would be in the 'fair' range for night recording. Wasn't bad at all in city driving with other lights around.

I have it mounted on Delkin's Fat Gecko mount I've had for over four years and with the power (can charge/record at the same time) going into my multi-port charger via mini-USB to USB port.

I'm also modifying an old Gorillapod's head that's quick release so I can just take off the Mobius if I need to upload any footage. I don't like taking out the microSD (or any memory card for that matter)

Here's a sample footage from this morning 1080p 30fps.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kzLrxl2xSw

The only issue I could see with this dash cam is that it runs hot; no way I'd leave this in a hot sunny day and keep it running without any cooling. I'm planning on putting a small copper heatsink and stick a small 2W fan I can switch on/off.

This is videos from the G1W-C Dash Cam.

Nevermind the date and time for the daytime video. I just haven't set it yet.

A lot of guys I know are switching to Mobius after their $300+ BlackVue is having consistent issue with horrible sound quality. I love my Mobius I'm going to get another for the rear

A close call footage (720p) when my step son was following me with my WRX and I was driving the Highlander few days ago. Until I get a 64GB card I switched to 720p so I can have five days or so of recording time.

I just installed the G1W in my daily. It's great in normal day light but when driving towards the sun, it can't compensate the overexposure and it's that great in the dark either. However, in the city it's perfect all around..
