yeah, I go further in and hit points not shown here.

I only dive that deep into the block for more extreme duty engines. I spend a couple hours doing it.

The touch up stuff for the oil pick up, Indiana plate area, oil filter area, etc are all pretty quick and easy to get too.

Have you guys taken numbered drill bits and plunge the galleys to see how "manufacturing" changes from day to day?

This is my first Subaru block that I have done porting to, but it may be tough to measure some of the galleys because they are long tapers.

I'm just starting my motor build I wish I knew exactly what I was looking at in those pictures. I have run out of money and will have some free days to port varoius things until I can collect more funds. Porting everything I possibly can has been my keep busy lately on this thing.

Something like knife edging a crank.

Some Porsche engines have mini scavange pumps in the heads to vacate the pooling oil.

Good stuff guys lets keep it going. I did most of the above to my wrx motor. Im building a motor for my Forester fxt and plan to do a mild job on it. I dont have any proven results but I feel that cleaning up the casting inside the oil return on block and heads. IMO a car that is built and tracked, autoxed, or some form of rally should deff do the oil return passages and the pick up point. Weekend warrior to the more serious...

Just my thoughts

after some searching around, I think the Indiana plate is the plate that you remove at the rear passenger side (USDM) to access the wrist pin and clip. Not sure what needs to be smoothed out back there though.

ideas?

thanks for the ideas CrazyKev. Just in the process of drilling my cam bolts off and then onto splitting the halves and cleaning up all the rough oil passages as so nicely outlined in above posts.

No problem. After I did the porting, I found out that it's semi-common?

I've got pictures I can try and dig up this weekend. I'm fairly certain I have pictures of Cosworths Pumps and our in house pumps.

Its good info for the community regardless.

I know I have some that I'd put up years ago under my Homemade WRX account. I'm not sure when I'll be 'cleaning' the next batch.

Ill order one and port it this week and Ill document the process. Its something we sell but the process isn't a secret and if guys want to do it themselves that's fine with me.

Ill try and get something together by mid week.

Its not much. Just match the seal area on the pressure side and smooth out the intake. You should remove the gear cover and port some castings from in there as well. Takes about five mins. Need to shim it? Remove the allen key and add a washer to the bottom of the spring.

I would also check the plunger if its sticking. Deburr if necessary

Edit: here is a horrible diy someone did. If no one does a diy in a couple of days ill write one up for u.

Any updates? My burr is just itching to open up the oil pump outflow port, but I would love to see some examples from the pros first.

I wish I took better pics, but I used a thin dremel attachment to port my oil pump. i might have one pic.

I was able to clean up the inlet and outlets to the rotor. As well as the o-ring port that mates up with the engine block. Oil pressure is amazing in my motor.

I can post mine when I get home. Nothing special or different than already posted though. I haven't gotten to my pump yet but it's next on the list.

Well if my last post and link were useless ill be doing this tomorrow along with another thread.

Id honestly wouldn't attempt this if this is someones first try. I really don't see much that could be gained from porting the oil pump. I would actually advise everyone to just check the plunger operation for any sticking. That's it!

Your better off just buying the pump you need for your build and maybe modifying a few passages on your block.

I am confident that I can do it. But it never hurts to see what other people have done, so as to learn from their victories and follies.

Still eager to see.
