Default BattleAero Wing?

Got a bonus and I'm looking into putting it towards some track oriented bits for the hatch. I'm looking for opinions as I'm going between the following:

1. BattleAero Hatch Mount Wing

2. BattleAero Chassis Mount Wing

3. Cusco Toe Arms and Trailing Arms
4. AGI Roll Bar

Thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

Car has a Stage 2 IAG motor, built heads, rotated GTX3076R and every suspension bit except the cusco pieces listed above.

Those wings look absolutely ridiculous. I vote for the suspension bits.

The car will be used for 80% track duty in HPDE, AutoX and eventually time attack so I'm doing it for the looks but I'm actually looking to improve downforce.

Fair enough - vote still stays the same lol. Have they been tested? Any legitimate downforce improvement? I don't think they will do anything for AutoX as the speeds are too low - they may do a bit for actual track.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that battle aero does absolutely 0 R&D or CFD for the subaru chassis, or their wings. They certainly don't try to make it seem like they do.

Downforce vs drag...who knows what you're getting. Maybe even lift under some conditions.

They are for show.

And show they don't! I can't stop looking at them - you know when something is so nasty you just can't stop looking over and over again?

To each their own though!

Yea, Im finding some negative reviews of their wings for other chassis. Im leaning more towards a roll bar or suspension bits

I vote for cage and/or suspension first. Chassis mount seems a ton more stable and in theory would transfer downforce in a more linear manner to the suspension Vs to the trunk then chassis and suspension. The 1 guy I knew in CA that had a BattleAero wing didnt like it. He said it flexed at 100+. It was on a track only, fully built Neon he ran regularly at Willow Springs and Buttonwillow.

As much as i love big wings, BattleAero's wing quality is questionable. I know someone who had one, completely got shredded up on the highway. Guessing it flexed and had damage and just went downhill from there

get a good set of coilovers if you have to get a splitter for the front as it is better than having a bunch of down force in the back lifting the front

Already have Feal 441s that are being sent in for rebuild/revalve/respring and I am ordering the battleaero splitter brackets so I can make a functional front splitter.

I have a Battle Aero wing on my 17 STI. To be honest, for the price they arent bad at all. I know alot of people talk crap and yes maybe it is true that they dont do any testing on them but they use kinda the same design of other wings and make it their own. My wing does create a ton of downforce in the rear. You will have to play with the angle a bit to get the best possible angle for maximum downforce and less drag. If I could post a pic of how much it makes my rear squat I would. Ive been using it for over 2 years at Global Time Attack and at Gridlife. Also some autocrosses around. It works and thats all that matters. I have the carbon fiber one, is it the best quality, no, But it works. It all up to you. Also Id go with hatch mounted.

Ended up going with the roll bar for now. I'll definitely address the aero in the future but I may go a custom route when the time comes.

I mean this in the most respectful way, but unless you plan on doing wind tunnel testing or CFD, you will have no idea if your splitter will be helping or hurting the car. How are you going to pick an AoA?

Testing on track. I understand what it takes to make aero parts that actually work and I understand that without wind tunnel or CFD it will be a ton of trial and error but that's why I do this, I enjoy the process. I will most likely be enlisting the help of a company that is much more knowledgeable than I am when it comes to aerodynamics to help me design the splitter blade.

Wouldn't lap times (or split times) and subjective handling impressions be the obvious way to test the effect of a splitter? There are an awful lot of amateur road racers that have effective splitters without using wind tunnels or CFD. Are those amateur splitters as effective as they could be or would be if they were being designed for a professional racing effort? Of course not. But that doesn't mean they're not worthwhile.

The angle of attack on most splitters, from what i've read, is only about 1-4 degrees. More important is making sure it is sealed to the front fascia and reducing ground clearance as much as functionally possible
