Default Cost of custom muffler installs on a WRX

For anyone who has taken a universal muffler to a local shop and had them weld on pipes and flanges:

How much did it cost?

Did you go axle-back or cat-back?

What kind of steel (stainless, mild, etc)?

Thanks

I haven't done this yet myself, but I know Magnaflow mufflers can be had for around $100-150 (they have SS 3" straight thru designs with lifetime warrenties). I'll eventually be getting one fitted to my TurboXS stealth turbo back. I figure another $100 or so for labor and piping.

Yeah, I'm looking for the actual cost people have paid for labor. I'm guessing around $100.

I went with a custom 3" catback system using a 3" magnaflow muffler. The muffler was $150 and so was the piping, so total was around 300. Keep in mind this was using aluminized pipe and not mandrel bent. I did it for cost reasons but in hind sight I probably would have been better off with some of the lower cost catback systems. I can't see spending 500+ for a catback but now I spent over 300 for something not nearly as nice.

I will admit though, the Magnaflow muffler is awesome. Great sound, Polished stainless, etc.

Stock looking dual tip - $60.

Bolt on axle-back straightpipe - $114

Unmuffled exhaust tone out of a boxer engine - PRICELESS.

Just a hackjob at the local muffler place for cheap so I can get the Vishnu Stage1 later whenever it comes out. Its not welded on but made to bolt on and off from the axle back. Sounds good for the price and still looks stock.

Yes it ran $150 bent and welded. I also had to go back later and add in a resonator due to a slight drone in the car right around 3K rpm. Wasn't very annoying around town but on the highway 3K is right about 70mph in 5th and that was unbearable for me. I went with a Dynomax bullet muffler for the resonator and it worked great. Straight through, no louvers and took out just enough of the resonance while still letting the roar out at full throttle. If you need a resonator I doubt you could go wong with it.
