Default BoxerFest - York, PA June, 16, 2019

Boxerfest in York, PA on June 16.

Anyone in the area going?

Worth going to/ checking out?

Never been to a subie fest before and this seems reasonably close.

Cheers!

I'm going (from Pittsburgh, PA) with a couple of friends (from Lancaster, PA). I've never been there before, so I have no idea what to expect.

I also signed up for autocross while there.

So, this is one of the top Subaru meets in the country (Largest one is Wicked Big Meet in CT a couple weeks after this). This will be the first year not in the DC Metro area, but I am confident it will be just as highly attended by enthusiasts and vendors alike.

There's a lot to do and see, but keep in mind, this is more than an average car show. This is a full-on event with vendors selling products on-hand at better-than-online pricing, so bring your wallets and your parts lists. There's normally an Auto-X, a car show, parts vendors and manufacturers, food trucks, official Subaru merchandise and cars on display, loudest exhaust competition, etc. Prepare for a full day, bring sunscreen, comfortable shoes, camera, family, and money. It's a great event.

I've gone to the past few, helping out at the autocross (instructing n00bs, helping with course design, etc.). I haven't committed to going this year, as York is a bit far for me.

Unfortunately I'll be traveling that weekend to WA, but York is my hometown and I often would go to the fairgrounds where they're hosting it (went to the schools right across the street). York Fairgrounds is also home to a large Hot Rod event, where folks line up lawn chairs along Carlisle Ave (a main strip) to watch them go by, so the venue/town knows what to expect and operate.

*Don't be the tool to try to show off, and discourage others as well.. traffic down that road gets ugly and you could hurt bystanders! It's happened in the past.

Also.. York isn't what it's used to be. Crime has been increasing outside of the inner city parts. A lot of locals stopped attending the Fair due to rival gangs stirring up trouble. I AM NOT POSTING THIS TO DISCOURAGE ATTENDANCE! just educating you, so when you want to leave your car and walk around and quick think what to do with that bag on your back seat you don't say "It'll be fine" but instead lock it in your trunk or take it with.

Sometimes we can be naive about other people's respect/goodness, so although I'm sure you'll be surrounded by great car enthusiasts.. just know some attendees will not share your sentiments. They see these events as $$$. Hope all those attend have a great time! There is a burrito place not too far away that is awesome.. Roburritos! Give 'em a stop.

I haven't 100% committed to going just yet, but when it gets a little closer and I know what's going on with the rest of my shi, uh, life, I could/would be up for a convoy of sorts.

I'm in the parkville/ overlea area for reference.

I will be there! Will be going the day before to hit Hershey Park with the family first and then stay over and Boxerfest the next day at autocross.

Google photos won't let me upload, so I'll try to put some of my highlights on imgur tomorrow.

As far as the Fairgrounds, it seemed like it was large enough for all they had there.

It all seemed to materialize driving on I-83, seeing a few fellow Subarus, exchanging waves, and driving into the fairgrounds together. Driving in and seeing all of the other Subarus arriving was absolutely amazing. I don't know what the final attendance count was, but parking looked like a sea of thousands of Subarus for as far as the eye could see. There of course was the few other makes, like the Mustang GT that arrived and I felt like jokingly saying, "Hey buddy, are you sure you are at the right car show?" I had an early admission pass at 9am, got there around 9:30 (because kids) and ended up parked by 9:50am.

I would have liked it better if the event had been set up with the parking being inside the event, but I can understand why logistically that would have been a nightmare. I guess that's why they give you wristbands, so if you do go back to your car, you can re-enter.

It was awesome seeing the 22B and S209, SVX, ST, RA-R, and 1st Gen Legacy Turbo that SOA brought. Getting a signed poster from Scott Speed was a cool and unexpected bonus too.

I didn't autocross, so I can't speak to how the course was, if it was too short, adequate, etc. It was fun grabbing lunch and watching some of the drivers compete from the sidelines.

I liked seeing all the cars in the car show, it's always fun to see what other passionate owners do to customize their cars. I'm amazed by the levels of talent, technical expertise, creativity, and vision that some have and how it is expressed in their vehicles. I thought the car show was a little small, and there were certainly some cars that just parked that would also have been show worthy.

I enjoyed taking to the vendors and some of the technical seminars. I thought Killer B's was outstanding, especially with the engines and products on display. I was in the market for a front lip and JDM CVT leather shift console, but just missed out on the lip as the last one was sold just before I got there, and the console was unobtanium. Oh well. Maybe for future Boxerfests, it could evolve into a swap meet - I certainly have some things that I would sell and would buy.

The only thing I didn't really like was that the raffle was not held until 4pm and you had to be present to win. With the event being held on Father's Day, I couldn't commit to spending the entire day at Boxerfest, the best I could do was until about 2:30pm. It would have been even sooner had my wife not agreed that it would be better for her and the kids to stay home, run errands, etc. while I attended Boxerfest. Although the event was well set up with many family oriented activities, I don't think my 5 year old and 3.5 year old would have lasted much past lunch. Thus, the extra raffle tickets for the premium ticket and food drive items were wasted since I couldn't stay until the actual raffle. Maybe future Boxerfests could spread out the raffle to a few items every hour so those of us with time commitments or other obligations don't completely miss out?

Overall, it was fun, I'm glad I had the opportunity to go, and I'd go again. Although next year I will bring at least one of the kids, if not both of them.

Nice Brat, and I love the XT. Is your Crosstrek a manual transmission?

Thanks for the pics guys!

Yeah, I didn't make it due to hangin' with pops. He likes my car, but he's not really into going to shows and stuff anymore.

Hopefully next year it's not on father's day and I can make it out.

What in the world is that blue minibus/ van cube thing?!!!

Glad you all had a good time!
