Just wondering if anyone has these wheels and how do they like them? For $112 they are a great price, look great. Just wanting everyone 2 cents.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....nSpeedRating=V

If anyone else has tires that perform better at about the same price or less, let me know.

I have seem some of the new performance tires being released, but I just don't know bout throwing $160 towards tires that I might not feel a big difference between the $112 and $174(Potenza RE-0R1)

These will be throw on my stocker 07 WRX wheels.

i'm on them now and they're...loud. grip is impressive even though it's still in the 50s here and they've done well in the rain we've had lately. i won't be buying them again though, there are better tires to try out

I have them and had them for 2 years. They worked very well in the dry. I was impressed. I would get them again especially for the price. But, I just ordered some re-01r's and they are already in the mail. mx's are great, but these bridgestones are going to be phenomenal.

Im so tempted by the re-01r's...just $170 a pop. Anyone sell them cheaper than tirerack?

i am up in the air between the re-01's and the mx's

they both have good reviews. i heard the mx deals with heat a lot better and will retain its grip in hot running conditions. as well as the re-01 has much much more grip with a colder running condition

I'm on my 2nd set of 225/45/17 MXs and will probably get the third set in September. I run them year long and get two years out of a set. MXs do handle heat well and take a couple of minutes to warm during winter driving. Hankook R-S2 offers similar performance and cost. Comparing MX to R-S2: MX handles heat better and is a better tire in the rain, R-S2 ha slightly better dry grip so long as it is not overheated.

Haven't tried the RE-01R. They cost 50% more but I can't imagine running around corners 50% faster than the MXs. For daily driving and aggressive weekend road driving the MXs are excellent. Some guys still auto-X with them.

MXs are softer compound than most passenger tires. Get the WRX front end aligned to zero toe or the car will eat the MXs up.

If you're on a tight budget, I think they're a very good option for a grippy summer tire. I've heard they do fairly well at the track too. Don't have quite the grip on an Azenis 615, but also don't tend to go off as much when they get hot.

For street use, the MX's are great. For occasional autoX and track, they're pretty good. For serious autoX, there's better choices (like the RE01R.)

They are probably the best HPDE tire for the money as they handle the heat build up without becoming over greasy or chunking. I've had two sets and would order a third if I wasn't retiring the FXT from track work.

Going on my 3rd season with one set of MX's. Loudest performance tire I've ever experienced, but the performance and cost are well worth it. I'll get a new set soon. The MX's grip is more than the stock WRX brakes can handle.

As expected, they are slick as hockey pucks in cold season in Ohio.

LOL! Yes, they are loud. Get 1/4 tread left and people on the sidewalk will turn around when they hear you coming down the street. MXs sound like off road tires when they wear down. Like you say, all of that performance is worth it. I like the tires a lot.

Thumbs down

I ran a set of MX's on my last car which was a better handler then my WRX. I think the Kumho's needed stiffer sidewalls and had a narrower running temperature range then most tires in it's class.

The MX definately has a soft sidewall. When autoxing I had to run 48psi front on asphalt and 51psi on concrete to keep the sidewalls from rolling over. Better camber would have helped, but they need more pressure than other tires.

I am on my second set of Kumho MX 245/40R17s, on the stock 17x8 BBS.

I like these tires. They are light, 4lbs lighter per tire than the OEM RE070. Good traction in a straight line and I could care less about corners.

The MX "soft sidewall" issue has to be taken into perspective. The MX is lighter than most extreme performance tires. The sidewalls may not be as stiff as heavier tires and that may be a disadvantage for running around pylons on a tiny autoX course. However, the MXs have all of the sidewall strength and stiffness you need for aggressive road and HDPE (as Tanj! states) driving.

The lighter weight of the MX can be a huge advantage. It all depends what you want the tires to do for you and your car. Saving a couple of pounds per corner at the most important places like the wheel rim and tire can improve acceleration, top end speed, handling and fuel economy. Light weight and extreme performance is why I paired the MXs with lightweight SSR Competition rims.

I hated my MXs in the rain, especially compared to the rs-2 I had before them.

What PSI are you running for these tires? I just updated my 205/50/17 stock tires to these in a 225/45/17. I am not sure for driving if I should have them at the stock PSI.

Thanks,

I had these on my MKV GTI....awesome tire for the price. A little loud once its worn but I think I'll be getting my 2nd set for the WRX in the next week or two. If performance and value is what you want, this is definitely a tire to consider.

Thanks,
you will want at least 38psi in them

i found that 39-41psi was good

make SURE your toe is '0' and these tires like a LOT of negative camber

I have 225/45 18 and I run 45 and 42. I'm quite rough on them.

That's a good question. While the XS most likely is a better tire than the MX, it's also heavier and wears faster.

I'm pissed off right now there are no MX's available in size 225/45/17 anywhere!

i'd still buy the XS. the MX won't last any longer than the XS.

I hear ya. Still heavier though. I hope to see Tire Rack review the XS very soon.
