Or you might want to check out http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=221676 for another way. If you have HID's (or plan on getting them), the scoobymods method may not work.

I wanted to disable mine because I think DRLs on cars are a useless waste of energy. They suck up electricity without providing any benefit in return.

I also ride motorcycles, and motorcyclists have a big problem with automobile drivers not seeing them. Thus the law that requires motorcycle headlights to be on at all times--this sets motorcycles apart from cars, at least in the daytime. Now that most cars have DRLs, motorcyclists are becoming invisible again, so a number of motorcycle safety advocates are promoting the idea that motorcyclists should always ride with their high-beams on. Frankly (and I'm unfortunately in the minority here), I think that idea sucks. I see the logic (motorcyclists need to do something to set themselves apart from the cars on the road so that other drivers will see them), but blinding oncoming traffic doesn't seem like a good solution to me.

In addition, there has been no research whatsoever showing that DRLs are effective in reducing automobile accidents (the National Motorists Association I think has some info on this), so I feel that DRLs on automobiles (1) waste energy, (2) make it more difficult for motorcyclists to make themselves visible, and (3) provide no actual benefit in an automobile.

hmm, I just think they look stupid.

also unless the conditions are bad I can see a car w/o headlights just as easily as one with headlights on. When conditions get bad (rain, fog, snow, etc) I turn my headlights on.

I have no desire to disconnect the DRLs. I've driven in the south west, Arizona and New Mexico in particular, where the heat off the road difracts the light normal, basically a mirage, but the DRLs shown right through. I never would have seen the cars coming at me other wise, not that it made a diference as long as we were in the correct lanes, but the DRLs do work for some situations. (By the way, AZ ann NM both have laws for those areas where lights nee to be turned on).

I would add a switch to the center console that breaks the connection to the switch in the parking brake. That way you can turn them off when you want and leave them working like stock when you having flipped your DRL switch. But that is just me.

I feel stupid driving around on sunny days with DRL's also. My parking brake does not start to engage until around the third click on the lever, so I just pull it to the first click and voila -- no DRL's. Works fine as long as you don't mind the brake warning light on the dash. This way you still have them if you decide to use them.

The problem with disabling or turning off the DRLs by either lifting the parking brake or jumping out the switch is that as mentioned the "Brake" warning light will be on permanently. Aside from being annoying this also eliminates the function of that light to warn of potential brake system problems, an unacceptable tradeoff.

They also make it hard to fly fast and low under the radar.

I have HID for my low beams, why would unplugging the DRL box affect these? Thanx
