Default GReddy E-manage or Link on 98 rs-t

I need farly cheap engine management, so im getting a piggy back system. Yet.. I don't want to get J&S. So, I'm thinking about getting GReddy E-manage or even some Link product.. (link plus.. or somethine like that)

What are your options on both?

You know of any distributors for theses?

Thanks.

Jon

Well if you want fairly cheap, Link is not the answer. $1500+ for the Link if you can find anyone that still sells it. The E-Manage is around $500 for the injector, ignition, and pressure sensor. It takes a bit of time to figure everything out, but once you do it should do everything you'd need it to.

www.mohdparts.com/emanage is a good site with decent prices and lots of good info.

Does the e-manage perform knock detection??

If not, you may want to get the J&S too

It's an engine saver.

No it doesn't. It allows you to adjust timing, so you can retard timing under boost, but it won't retard due to knock. A J&S + E-Manage is a good idea (its what I'm currently using).

That's the setup I've decided to go with for my project. I've been looking at emanages for awhile now. Is the J&S display a gauge, or a box-like display unit. I've never seen a picture of one installed.

thanks

But then again, if you can get a LINK+ for a little over $1000, then get that instead of the other combination.
Nothing beats a standalone! (A tuned one I mean )

I also run an eManage with a J&S on a MY98 RS. Works fantastically well. The Dual Monitor display for the J&S is a 52mm gauge with a row of LEDs for knock retard rate and another row of LEDs for an A/F gauge. For the money, the eManage really does offer a lot of flexibility and is easy to get running since it doesn't require a base map to start up. If you're gonna get a J&S for an MY00+ RS, be sure and get a newer Version 2 unit. It offers a built-in voltage clamp for the MAP sensor and has a pressure sensor that'll bump the TPS signal to 4.5v when you hit boost keeping the ECU from trying to run closed loop on boost.

thats the J&S gauge in the middle - top row of leds is knock detection... bottom is A/F ratio

I run J&S v2 safeguard with greddy e-manage too. I've been doing that for almost a year now. Works exceptionally well.

Here's a pic of the pod with J&S in center and digital black nordic oil and fuel pressure on the sides:

Thanks for the pictures guys. Joncas, what are those dish shaped things on top of your gauge pod?

I was dreaming about engine management all last night.

Here's the deal.. Should I get J&S and e-manage orr just spend a little more and get a link ECU.

Why is getting a standalone worth the extra money?

I'm not even sure that you can find link's floating around with very many vendors here. I think they had a huge price increase.

are you guys giving all the control to the J&S as far as timing goes or did you also program a new timing map with the emanage?

I got my link used for $900 then I had to buy a $300 breakout loom. so roughly $1200.

I hope you guys realize too... that OBD2 (96+) cars CANNOT pass emissions w/ a standalone unit.

They can only pass w/ an OBD2 compatible ECU. That is why I also, chose Greddy Emanage.

I've been thinking about the emanage for my legacy turbo ej20g...
It seems pretty powerful for the price, but it also seems easy to add on options till its not so cheap anymore...but its like that with everything.

I have what might be a kinda stupid question...I occasionally hear people voice worries about the stock ECU's learning functions "correcting" the adjustments one makes with piggyback controllers, especially AFC's. I don't really know if that applies to timing control as well. Is this an issue really? will it be with an emanage?

And is one going to really have to invest in a wideband to tune it well, or get one get away with EGT, and a crappy a/f display?

I hope this thread keeps trucking.
Thanks
micum

If you have a J&S Version 2, you don't really need to make a seperate timing map because you can do boost retard. If you have a Version 1, then you'll need to use the emanage for timing control.

With any piggyback there is the possibility that the ECU will learn around the corrections. This applies to both fuel and timing. If you're using a voltage clamp and adding directly to the injector pulse width, then you should be able to stop most of the ECU's learning for fuel, but timing will still be effected. There's no real good way around this with a piggyback system.

Tuning should be done with a wideband O2. You could use just EGT to make a map to get you by until you can get professionally tuned, but wideband professional tuning is the best, safest way to go.

Hi, same car, but i already have J&S.

I was curious what you guys thought of the new Apex S-afc II in comparison to Emanage. It seems to have more features when comparted side by side with Emanage and has a hot wire sensing capability, which is great for 98 rs.

Current mode:
-6 psi on supercharger
-J&S
-upgraded fuel pump
-parallel fuel mod (not what's on this site)
-fpr
-S-afc II in the mail.

S-AFC has more features??? Not a chance. E-Manage can do direct contol of the injectors so you can still add fuel when the MAP/MAF is maxed out. It also does voltage clamping, timing control, data logging, ability to switch maps, and much more.

in that case, can S-AFC and Emanage work together? Or perhaps have the best of both worlds?
