2004 STI Fuel Pressure Regulator Install HELP!

Does anybody have a good writeup/DIY or video for FPR install/replacement. pretty sure this is only for side feed style fuel system...

Using OEM part 22670AA351

Here is a youtube link for a 2002 wrx, dont know if it will help. Just take out you rear seat, disconnect the hoses from the fuel pump and replace it. Its easier then you think. Also added a how to Install 04-07 STI Fuel Pressure Regulator from Legacygt.cum

I think for 04 sti, the fuel pressure regulator is by cylinder 1 injector. Close to turbo inlet.

You know what, you might be right. I was thinking of the Fuel Pressure Damper Regulator, there are two on the the right side. Looking at the diagram yes the fuel pressure regulator is on the passenger side. Sorry for the fake news.

I believe it's bolted to the underside of the intake manifold passenger side.

Fuel pressure regulator is on the driver side on 04-05 sti. These models are side feed.
If you have your top mount intercooler, then it's under, close to the starter.

Once you find it, you'll see it's pretty easy, just remove the hoses (mark them or take a pic before), then remove bolt from bracket to release the FPR, then replace for the new one and revert steps.

If you look at the pics in this thread, yes it looks like the best/easiest way would be to remove your intake mani.

I just replaced mine a couple of months ago. Removing the intake manifold was the only remotely practical way of getting to the fuel pressure regulator.

got it out but ran into some issues. started to take vac lines off of the IM and one of them happened to be for the EVAP system. I ended up snapping the vapor canister purge solenoid
The worst part is I didnt even need to mess around with that since it stays attached to the IM when you remove it... 95 bucks down the drain

also removing the FPR with the fuel lines still attached to the IM was pretty damn tricky. the fuel lines in and out of it were pretty crunchy. i ended up cutting them and just ordered new ones since they are pretty cheap.

Some notes if anyone needs this for the future: remove the airbox and battery. need to unbolt the top line (banjo bolt) for the PS pump and uninstall/move the AC compressor to the side. dont forget the ac tensioner bolt is reverse threaded (dont ask me how i know) i also left the TB hooked up to the coolant lines and removed it and let it rest near the pitch stop.

So far so good. Sounds like you doing it right. First time I had to take of the intake Mani I had a fellow Nasioc member give me a hand. After that its like riding a bike. You never forget how to take it off again.

yeah I definitely feel comfortable if I were to do it again.

here's some more tips/tricks/suggestions for a first-timer doing this job.

buy all new hoses for the FPR (807503211, 807707111, 807707140)
getting them on was tough. I highly suggest soaking the two fuel lines in boiling water to soften them up. I just microwaved some water until it was boiling then poured it into my Yeti mug. let it marinate for ~5 mins . Also i used 91% isopropyl alcohol to lube the two fuel lines when sliding them on. dont be affraid to use needle nose pliars too. getting the fpr to line back up with the bolt hole was a little wonky and i was contiplating just using zip ties lol but i eventually got it to bolt in. i had one of the sides too tight causing it to pull to that side. when installing the lines maybe put some painters tape so the rubber hose cant go too far.

also getting that 90* coolant hose that connects to the turbo expansion tank was pretty tricky to get back through the IM when reinstalling it. I watched a youtube video and he suggested plugging it with a bolt (when disassembling to stop the coolant from leaking). I didnt have a bolt big enough so I ended up using a short 3/8 extension that fit perfectly. when I went to reinstall the IM i tied up a shoe string to that so I could pull that 90 degree hose vertical.
