Question Rimmer S/C and Cobbs street cams... gossip...

Can this combo work? I know Trey said the cams would work for "mild" turbo applications, but what about the s/c?

A s/c at 10psi is less efficent than a turbo right? (or wrong?)Does this mean I can run that much boost w/ the street cams? Any s/c guys know if this might be a fatal thing for my valves or wallet?

Oh yeah, anyone have gossip/info on new s/c kits for us?

Rich L,
Trey's going to install the cams on my car. I've got the Rimmer Sidewinder s/c, which uses the Eaton M62 blower. He said the cams would work very well with the s/c.

Rich L,

There's no problem about reporting the results, but it won't reflect the difference made by the cams alone -

Among other things... Trey's going to install a whole bunch of other stuff; such as ported and polished heads, bigger TB, bigger fuel pump, ACT clutch and UL flywheel, as well as the Borla header, Random cat (or Rallispec track pipe. I've got a rear O2 simulator designed to fool the ECU – no CE light), and Rallispec resonated cat-back.

Eh, Subaru prices aren't that bad compared to some. Performance ain't cheap and money is subjective.

I think what Ed is doing makes perfect sense-- he already has a fair investment in the SC and other stuff, and now he's going to make it run really well. Trey is the right man for the job.

Thanks guys.
As you can see, I've decided to commit to the s/c. Hopefully Trey will get it sorted once and for all. I've asked him to make reliability tantamount to stock as much as he can. Concessions on horsepower will be made to meet that goal. This is my last ditch attempt to get the car running flawlessly. If it flops... I'm throwing in the towel – I would've done the best I knew how.

Edekker: where can I find an O2 simulator? That is the one thing I need to pop my turbo in the car without the tech-II and run low boost!

delectron,

I designed the EGO SIM myself.
You can see what it looks like in the members’ section - http://216.242.153.40/MembersList/Vi...30&PicNumber=4

The SIM will only work with o2 sensors that output in the standard 0V to 1V range (MY99, MY98 only, not sure about previous years).

I suppose I could sell them, but I have no experience. I’m not sure what such a device is worth.

What does the design look like? IE, how do I build my own?

delectron,

For now I’m holding back on the details of the design. I’m entertaining the prospect for a reseller in the USA. It’s not rocket science however. By observing the relationship between the front and rear EGO sensors I was able to design a circuit that mimics the rear EGO sensor.

Info and installation instructions can be found here: http://members.home.net/edekker/rs/sim_info.htm

I could probably build my own if I wanted to tear up the wiring harness and put voltmeters to the front and rear O2 wires, but I can't drive the car around or even start it right now.

Want to build me one for a reasonable price? I'll pay shipping.

delectron,

Check your email. There’s pricing and shipping info.
I don’t have a paypal as of yet. I’m not sure if it’s applicable to Canada.

hey Ed,
now I will want to see your setup ! (Too bad you couldn't make it to Car Fever by the way)
I really hope for you that Trey will be able to make the setup work. (Too bad we don't have someone like that around Ontario / Montreal !).
I was just wondering about cams w. the s/c recently ... curious to see the results.

Let us know !
