Bumper Repair (Pics in Thread)
So, I had a fender bender in a parking lot, and maybe we were both to blame, but she didn't have any insurance, and seemed like a hard working woman. There was only a small bump so I let it go.
I have done what I can as far as pulling the dent out. I took off the bumper, heated it from the back side (the side without the paint), used a dent puller to suction cup it while it was hot, and let it cool with the puller on there. The dent is mostly gone. However, there are still stretch marks around the dent which are very plainly visible. I was hoping to get some advice on masking these as well as possible. Also note that there are scratches around the area, deep unsightly things, that I don't have a prayer of removing, but are much less noticable than the stretch marks.

Dent puller was probably a bad idea.
What basically happened is you "vacuum formed" that section of plastic / paint, Best way would be to heat it (low heat) from the inside and using your fist gently push it back out. |

The bend goes outwards, (there is some kind of rubber sensor behind the bumper there that pushed out when the collision occurred). So it's still bending the same way it did when it happened. When you say use my fist to push it back out, you mean "in" right? As in try to make it smooth.
If so, that's exactly what the guy from Pep Boys' Body Shop advised. And I did that at first, using a hair dryer just like he told me too. But it didn't help matters. It didn't change it at all, in fact. That's why I purchased the dent puller. Without heat, the bump would just return as soon as I released the suction. That was why I used heat. If a body shop encountered this problem, how would they handle it? |

Is the actual dent gone? It's hard to tell from the pics.
If so maybe you can find a decal or something that wouldn't look too out of place there, otherwise it most likely will need to be sanded and re-sprayed. |

That's a pretty good idea actually. No, it's not completely gone, but mostly.
