A question for those users using the safe mode wire in the ECU for the failsafe. What changes does it make in the ECU?

I am not sure if I am talking about the same thing, but I think you are referring to the failsafe which ties into the boost control solenoid at the ECU. If so, when the failsafe or power off button is enabled, then the opens the circuit and basically runs at waste gate pressure. It doesn't cause a CEL because the Aquamist module matches the OEM solenoid resistance so the ECU doesn't even know.

your rom has to have map switching capability, and of course another set of tables which have been shifted "safer" ie rich/retarded/low boost.

The single wire failsafe is for those running stand-alone EM. It's up to the tuner to determine what the failsafe trigger does. On my car, the lack of 5V on the failsafe wire switches the ecu to my standard pump gas tune that changes the fuel, timing, and boost maps

Edit: K scratch all that. Decided to just go ahead and do it since I couldn't think of any issues. Any it works!.. mostly.

Just one of the line fittings seems to be leaking. Hmm.

Car 2002 Subaru impreza WRX 5mt

System Aquamist 2d (older pump with the massive heatsink iirc race version pump)

Fuel injector number 4 tapped.

I believe the HSV is now called the FAV

2d System was installed and working correctly. Then approx 2 years ago I decided to embark on an engine project.

I disabled power to the pump two years ago. And I removed the water jet and the HSV from the car, and stored them in a box in my study.

Problem. No flow from HSV when FIA is triggered.

Diagnosis 1
engine off
ignition switch on position 2

power applied to Aquamist pump without hsf or nozzle.

The pump primes correctly when power is connected
Water comes out of the tube at the end of the pump. Quite a fair bit.

Diagnosis 2
Aquamist pump with HSV connected but no nozzle. pump runs until pressure is built up at the HSV inflow port, then it switches off

engine off
ignition switch on position 2
ground brown wire on HSV

There is flow at the HSV. can hear the hsv clicking

Diagnosis 3
engine on (running)
ignition switch on position 2
FIA shows fuel light on.

When I open the hop switch circuit. (this is normally closed)

-FIA water light comes on

But no water comes out the HSV

diagnosis 4
Received a used/working FIA

Replaced FIA, same problem

Please help

At idle there may not be enough duty cycle to energise the HSV. I suggest ground the brown wire of the HSV and see if the HSV opens up.

Okay that is good info. Should I rev it to 3000 rpm

I did do that in diagnosis step 2. The HSV is working

Thank you for the help

You need to put some load on the engine by driving it. A stable 3000rpm free revving has next to no load. If you blip the throttle hard, it will load the engine. Try this first.

is your manifold pressure sensor grounded/properly connected? if you unground it, it will send signal to FIA2 to inject water, which could explain why you are seeing both lights at idle

on another note, I put my system back together today to find out my ERL race pump doesn't work, so if anyone has a working one and willing to sell at a reasonable price, let me know

I am unaware if I can upgrade to the big shurflo pump at this point while keeping all 2D wiring/FIA2 stuff?

I have a leak at the quick disconnect from the manifold to the accumulator. I have tried to cut new hose and it's still leaking. So I ordered new hose and two quick disconnects

Do not use quick connectors, there are better alternatives that don't leak.

The orange fittings are still push on type, Since you ordered them already. I would leave it.

you should be able to use the bypass pump. this guy is selling off his hydramist with a spare pump he might be willing to part out: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2705599

Thanks Hyper, I had a spare manifold pressure sensor and swapped them . Looks like that fixed my issue

ken, what do you mean by bypass pump? shurflo? (don't know how to spell it) I was under impression it is both 6mm in and out, and according the HFS diagrams it has 2 wire instead of 3 for the ERL

actually I was lucky to snatch a brand new ERL from my friend, but for the future experiments I'd love do know how difficult it is to retrofit one into an older system... I don't need most of the neat stuff as I am using Autronic to control most of it anyway

666stars, good to hear, I had an issue with that myself a while ago and Richard figured it out in no time and sent me a replacement unit, so all thanks goes to him
