Default spring talk

2006 WRX, 31k miles. CAI, catback, BOV, short shifter.

Well, Im looking for some lowering springs. Searching the forum yeilded a little bit of results. Ive seen a few pics of the tien s techs and they look good, but I cant find anyone that sells them. Ive also looked at the megan coil overs, there price is tempting and I hear pretty good things about megan racing. Ive looked at Cobb and searched on Cobb and I hear that they drop the car to low and you start sacrificing things, as far as any other brands out there I havent seen many more.

Another question. Are strut tower bars necessary?

S techs are garbage. Unless you like the bouncy style like all the ricers...

And buy something that will actually help your cars performance. STI pinks, prodrives, and cobb are all good springs.

Pinks are decent for performance but the drop is minimal.

For the looks department you can see many differnent ones in there, but for performance you'd probably be best talking to people who own them. I have cobb springs on my 05 and i love them, perfect drop (imo), handle good, and my stock struts seem to be doing fine. From pics it seems like they sag a lot on 06+ though

The Cobbs and the Tein S-Techs are both extremely poor choices from a performance perspective. They simply drop the car too much. 1.5 inches is the absolute lowest you want to go. You've already eaten up a lot of bump travel with that, and as you go past that point, you go into a terrible part of the camber curve where you gain positive camber as the suspension compresses.

Also, are you tuned for your CAI? BOV's are also generally speaking not good for our cars.

Please please please don't be that guy with a slammed Subie with a BOV and a CAI...

Your other questions: strut tower bars are not necessary for the GD chassis sedan. They can't hurt, but don't spend big bucks there. Go for swaybars and endlinks instead. The Megans are a well-reviewed cheap coilover, but I personally believe people are better served by getting the best strut they can afford and pairing with an appropriate spring instead of the low-end coilovers.

2 inches up front - way too much.

Search in the suspension forum. Some popular springs for stock struts are Prodrive, SPT, and Tein H-Tech.

ive used both tein s-tech and h-techs. currently im running the h-techs on stock struts and i love them. the ride isnt bouncy at all and they handle really well, esp with the addition of 22mm sway bars in the front and rear.
