16g Ftl!!
Had my brandy dandy new Fp super 16g installed, exactly 2 weeks ago at DC. I thought it odd that the car didn't make anymore power than the vf34(265whp), but the tq seemed lower. Rich said the car was showing alot of knock...Drive home, damn turbo sounds like a s/c whining when spooling. Didn't think too much of it, until yesterday evening when the car wouldn't boost at all followed shortly by some ugly sounds from under the hood. Looks like the turbo had some balancing issues and the wheels are hitting the compressor housing, literally causing it to stop spinning. So back on goes the 34 next week until I get in touch with our Fp vendor and Fp, and decide what turbo to get now. (hint: it won't be a mitsu dammit!)

good luck having fp help u out quickly, they take a minumum of two weeks to get anything done, i called them because i have a fpgreen thata all broken in front of me and it also cost 350 for them to even look at it. So if u have a receipt, include it when u ship it out so that there are no questions about anything. sorry to hear that it didnt work. I know the 16g should make a more than the vf34 but it wont be a drastic change. If u wanted a nice change in hp then the 18 is what u should have gotten. i wouldnt be discouraged from the mitsu turbos many many people are running them with no problems. i would just get it from a different company, not fp as a lot of those have broken, that i know of.

I'm thinkin a pe1820(rich and joe's suggestion as well)...maybe an 18g, just not from fp. I purchased the 16g from a distributor that we buy from at Surge, and they also carry pe's. So i'm hoping they will also work with me.

Could be lots of things, the first one that comes to mind is failing to prime the turbo...that single action has led to a lot of turbo deaths. Considering how many people have this and related turbos....installer error would be the first thing I looked at.

yeah i didn't have time to do it myself, so i let dc take care of it. i think they've done a few before. the reason i went with fp is because we get them cheap from our distributor. i will not buy another fp at this point.
anyone know when the vf43 will be available? racingfish?? |

just because an install was done at a shop doesnt mean it was done correctly...who knows, they could have had some new guy do it. or a billion other things...**** happens. (im not saying thats what happened, but its an idea) IMHO its a horrible reason to discount all MHI turbos, considering the track record they have. |

Could also been caused by detonation the motor was having. I have seen this eat up a turbo as well. Could have been a faulty turbo. .. People also make mistakes. But given the tuner and the owner of the shop. I'd say it was not caused by them. But at any rate **** happens.... No one was hurt. The wagon will live to fight another day. |

And I'm not discounting mhi turbos, i said i will not purchase an fp built one again, as some of my research has shown them to have similiar issues. |

The wheel touching the housing I don't think would be from oil starvation. Sounds like a manufacturer defect. I'm sure things will work out. If FP stands by their product.

And all i`m saying is that the installer knew what he was doing and DC is not going to let some random guy with no knowledge of turbo swaping do a turbo swap on his first day of work |

there's plenty of variables...who puts fp's turbos together? i'm sure they assemble all their turbos in-house. And i know someone that used to assemble turbos for a well known company and you would be surprised at the skill level, or lack thereof, of those putting them together. At this point, depending on what Fp says I may end up with another 16G to try out.
