Question Is the Impreza worth an Civic Si + 5k

So I priced a 2013 Impreza Sport Limited with pop package #1 with the leather shifter, splash guard, strake kit, and side moldings. Came out to 24984. Add a moonroof and your at 26k. I test rode a 2012 Si last night and the sticker on it was 21k+. I like the Impreza but I'm having a hard time swallowing the price. I mean at 26k, I'm very close to picking up an Acura TSX along with some other high end luxury cars. Don't get me wrong, I like the Impreza but the price is having me question weather I should start looking at other cars. What do you think?

those two cars arent even the same. civic si and the sport impreza. the civic was more power, two-wheel drive, use more fuel (or possibly same in real world) and was the civic even fully loaded? doesn't sound like it, when i last looked at it back in january. the txs is pretty much a civic si with more luxuries. and the base trim starts at 30K.

i cant really answer your question. both cars have about the same space in 4-door trim level. but since you said sport, not even close. the sport has tons of more space than the civic. i mean, if you were happy with the civic si, then you dont have to get the bells and whistles in the limited trim, sport premium is still nice. in the sport premium, you can get heated seats, and windshield de-icer. so the impreza is much more practical. but if you dont need the space, or 4-wheel drive then yea, the civic would be cool. you could save yourself a few thousand dollars. but, i didnt buy the civic si is because i needed it all. i needed as much space as i can, awd, and mileage. i bought my sport premium for 21,200 out the door. and i have never wished i gone back. but your case isn't like mine. i have a S2000 in the garage. and i had to have what i needed.

but with that said. the civic is one heck of a car you can buy for sub 20K. quick(not fast) and reliable. although there is the genesis coup and brz i wouldn't mind looking at either. the genesis came from a brand that is not synonymous with reliability, but they have a 100K warranty or 10 years and they does deny warranty based on tire wear.

If you need leather, moon roof, and an automatic, you're gonna pay for it. A sport 5 speed is much closer in price. Then it's AWD hatchback vs. FWD 200hp sedan/coupe with moon roof. Still apples and oranges, but closer. Then again, if you're swayed by performance, why not Focus ST or Mazdaspeed3? Both make the Civic Si look weak.

I have an '02 Si now. Put 100k in 5 years. The only reason I'm looking at the new one is because mine has ran flawless and I wanted to test ride all options before going all in on the Impreza. Love the handling of the Impreza. Not too crazy on the look unless it's decked out like I optioned it. I'm not in it for the performance either. I'm perfectly happy with the Impreza.

Reliability wise, I think the Civic will outlast the Impreza bar none. The engine and tranny on the Si, just sings along and doesn't skip a beat. I've always been on a Honda fan. I like Subie's too.

I don't NEED the Limited, just that for ~+$700, you get alot like dual zone and leather, kind of a no brainer. I'm not sure how you got yours for 21.2k. That's less than invoice.

oh yea, i am a major honda fan. reason why i did get an STi is because i have a honda S2000 in my garage. silverstone 2006. if your not in it for the perfomance why the si and not the lx or accord. well not so sure on the reliability. on the old EJ engines the head gasket and the timing belt were maintenance items that needed to be changed out. but on the new engines, the HG was redesigned to not breakdown at 100K and the belt had been replaced by a chain. so they should be relatively reliable. also, this is the na model, so no turbo failure, and no ringland failure. this is my first subaru is my asian community. when i told people what i was going to buy, i told them i wanted a subaru; they asked me what brand makes that. i loled.

21,200 is what i got for it. along with a couple of nice accessories like rear cargo tray, back seat protector, rear bumper protector and aero kit. BTW i didnt asked for these things, there were already on the car. but this was when impreza were fairly new and it wasn't unheard of to get buy it under invoice. now, scince they are selling like hot cakes, dealers are no longer selling under invoice, why lose money. it also takes a good long talk and negotiating. like telling them about other car that is slightly "better" or has better mpg or features. sit there and talk for a while i mean awhile where he has invested a long time and energy in you. then pretend to leave. tell them, i think i will go with the other car. usually does it for me.

I wish i kept my spec-v. Impreza (especially 2012 MT) is no fun compared to a more sporty car. and im not impressed with subaru build quality either at this point. Imp gas mileage is super disappointing for being as slow as it is. No 6th gear either. But the subaru is safe... damn im old now.

In some ways, it's hard to say. The Civic Si can be configured with a nav unit, and has a generally better audio setup than avalible in any other Civic trim. I think since the last Civic Si was discontinued, it's more of a "top level Civic with MT," rather than "a slice of something different," anymore.

Just my opinion.

But as others have said, "apples to oranges." They are not really directly comparible, but I am cross shopping between the two, right now. Civic Si sedan w/ Navi vs Impreza Premium MT. It's a tough decision, for me. I'm still holding out for the 2013 Civic before taking the final step. The Accord sedan was on the list, but you cannot configure the MT models in any meaningful way, though it gets decent fuel economy for a large "midsize" sedan. If the 2013 Civic Si gets that engine (not likely), it will cement the choice. Otherwise, there are several other considerations to make; the Impreza has only 5 speeds; the Civic requires premium (93); the Impreza has 4WD; the Civic gets a mechanical (not viscous) LSD!; the Impreza is more expensive; the Civic Si seems to get ridiculous insurance quotes in my area.

EDIT: I said more expensive, that's in my area (Sactown), for whatever reason, it just is. Of course, negoatiations may vary, especially if the 2013 Civic proves a hit and doesn't get anywhere near the discounts of the 2012 Civic.

In my case AWD FTW. If you live in an area of the country where AWD is less important, drive both and buy what you like.

Keep in mind you are pricing a fully loaded car with lots of added aftermarket materials. My Sport without any extra plastic stuck on was $20,500 out the door.

Why are you comparing AWD to FWD? That right there is usually a 2-4K upgrade in any vehicle. Plus you are comparing a loaded NEW model year impreza to last years model civic. Plus, you are adding like $1000? in extras to the impreza that aren't needed for anything other than aesthetics (strake kit, body molding)..

My SPORT MT model was $19100. I couldn't touch a new SI for that price around here...plus I like the AWD aspect. Does the SI even come with leather or a sunroof?
