k20s that are rated ~200 crank hp seem to last longer at 400whp(less torque, but still). fb20s from brz/fr-s are also seem to be holding up to 400whp pretty well. don't forget 2jz-gte's, 3s-gte's, sr20det's, rb26dett's, vq35de's and whatever is in MS3's, GTI's and SRT-4s
all of those engines can handle larger percentage power increases and last longer..

you have seen 300whp 3sgte's and rb26's blow up? lol
I doubt a VQ35 would die that quickly at 400whp either, there are plenty of twin turbo z/g's running around with 400-500whp. I mean anything can blow up if it isn't tuned right I left out s2000's they can handle a lot of power in stock form |

The RB motors are known for not handling power like the SR's. Many of the turbo setups on those cars are detuned for that reason unless they are built. |

idk there sure are a lot of 1000whp rb's running around the interwebz
how long do you think a stock ej would hold up to this? ^^ http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/9234...can-they-hold/ Quote:

Go bug the people on the Honda forums if you love their motors so much.

sorry that it annoys you that you don't own the best car in the history of the world...I mean you are basically the poster child for the why you shouldn't heavily modify a WRX campaign..lol |

Since we aren't posting photos in this forum anymore, I would like to do something equally as non-applicable and let everyone to know that I like tacos...
That being said, can we get back on topic again? |

I don't see how this is trolling. I basically said it sucks that our engines can't handle more power which turned into a whole pedantic exchange about HP vs torque when I was just trying to make a general statement. Then you got all defensive about your engine and xluben's tampon fell out. I just made a harmless comment. I may not have engine building experience I do have extensive experience with is watching idiots blow their motors up on forums and in real life for the last 11 years Should clarify that I don't mean you guys are idiots because you knew it was going to happen and actually had a plan of action instead of most people who just sell their broken car at a loss. |

The rest of the motors on your "golden list" are in the same boat, and I have PERSONAL experience with them in that respect. Hell...even the VR38DETT motor shows major issues when pushed to that level of percentage increase and that is not even considering the clutch basket. The issue here is that you spout of things that you "read or saw on the internet" which are not true in real life. I have friends that are deeply ingrained in the Honda life that have built multiple Honda's that are complete fanboys...and they wouldn't agree with what you are saying. Stick to what you have hands on experience with...not what you see in YouTube videos. |

You do have to weed through a lot of fanboy stuff with Honda guys but I still just don't see those other motors failing right on cue the way ej's seem to.

You forget that the ej is ancient. Its such an old motor. Also, subarus can handle stock power, we mod so expect **** to go wrong.
And honestly I love people who talk peak numbers. Cool you made 400+ at 5k only to shift at 7...spool counts and on the forums you hardly see anyone do headwork. And as for drop in pistons vs rods. Etc. It all depends on the needs, you never read about sti rods failing. Always ringland and pistons grenading...sigh. Speaking if which celery come out to auto x this season, id love to see where that mouth gets you on the track. |

All this useless chatter and irrelevance...
Ancient or not from experience the 3sgte, h22s, LS2, and EJs are all reliable... to an extent. Those motors are very different in design yet Id build any of them again. Be educated on what you're dealing with and enjoy. This debate is like comparing athletes of different professions and debating if, when, and how the body will break down. Nothing is perfect and varies based on its application. Pics: |
