Compustar 2WSS-AS Alarm/Remote Start installation
Anyone know of a good install shop for this system? I'm looking for a shop in the Philadelphia or Harrisburg PA area. Also I saw this unit on Ebay for about $250, is that a fair price?
Thanks

That reply really confuses me in so many ways.
You may want to try in your regional forums for a good install place. The install is very important, so it is a good thing to ask about; just make sure not to skimp on the cost if it sounds high. The best seller on eBay for Compustar that I have heard of is kikoz01, my advice is to buy from him because he is supposed to be an authorized seller (doesn't mean you get a real warranty though) and seems to be very cool about any problems you may have. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW offset |

WR^2X,
Since u got the 2WSS, how do you like it? Does it have the 1.25 mile distance? I'm still trying to decide between the CompuStar 2WSS, Clifford G5, or Clifford Matrix. Any opinions? I really like distance of the 2WSS, but I heard that Clifford are better alarms. |

It does not get the 1.25 miles advertised. In my own tests, I found that with a fresh battery in the remote, it got .25 miles remote->car, and .75 miles car->remote. After thinking about it, 1.25 miles seems very unreasonable unless you're in the radio quiet zone or something.
I like the alarm overall. Only problem I have had was the siren died after about 3 months, but the general concensus is that that was my own fault, since I mounted it near the turbo. |

I found my dealer by going to CompuStar and emailing there sales department. [email protected] They sent me back a list of the 4 dealers closest to me. Don't be surprised when the cost of the install is 2 or 3 times the cost of the alarm. Its a bear to install, especially on a standard.

I haven't found an installer yet, been busy with other mods. I'm still trying to decide which alarm system to get. When I get mine installed I'm PM you. |

Yep, there was a fairly big difference between car->remote and remote->car on mine... Are you getting .25 miles each way, or more? If you're getting .75 miles remote->car like I was car->remote, then lucky you! I tested by turning up the shock sensor's sensitivity, then setting my cellphone to vibrate and placing it on the dash. Then I took another cell phone and started walking away from the car, calling and querying as I went.

as for the 1.25 mile range I do thinks it a little far fetched but you do have to realize compustar origanted out of alaska & whats in alaska "not much"lol joe r,the compustar guy. |

I haven't tested it in a wide open area, but so far it's not really any better than the millenium FX car pager i was using before. I guess as a two way, with the same range as just the pager isn't bad....I was just expecting it to be better. was that .75miles in an open area, or fairly open area? |

It was in a residentialish area. Flint, MI. Houses on one side of the road, Kettering University academic building and campus center on the other... I was outdoors the whole time. I would pretty much completely lose reception once I went inside the school, I guess because of the building-wide 802.11 wireless.

so did you pretty much walk in a straight line away from your car?
i didn't get to do that yet. my testing was limited to my neighborhood, just drove down my street which winds around in all different directions, so mine was 1/4mile through houses and peoples yards with big trees etc... |

I walked in a straight line as far as I could, but then when I finally lost the signal I was on the other side of the school. Something like:
......ME..\.\X .............\.\X ...|XXXX|.\.\X ...|XXXX|..\.\X ...|XXXX|...\.\X_____ --------------------- X..X..X.CAR.X\.\ ....................\.\ Where the X's are houses/the school, and the lines are the roads. Obviously not to scale. I would have liked to go in a straight line the whole way, but didn't find a route that would allow that. |

All alarm manufacturers advertise "theoretical" / "lab" range .. which does not account for weather, obstacles, other RF / SS signals.....
The 2WSS will not give you the 1.25 m range but it will give u longer range than others! - I get range at 16 floor of my building and car at 4th floor adjacent structure.... not bad IMO..... I'm very please w/ alarm , had it for a year - no problems! remote start works sweet! |

I agree. Like I said, probably the only place you're going to get the 1.25 mile advertised range is in the radio quiet zone, where there's no other interference.

I never thought i would get a 1.25 range, i was just saying I'm not really getting better range then i was getting with the millenium fx pager that i think claims max 1/2 mile range. I'll try to do a more straight line range test or I'll just have to do a comparison with someone that has a viper 2-way to make me feel better

I dunno guys, I know I started my truck from 4500 feet away, and it was up on a hill, by no means a good clear shot. The only real time I measured the distance.
Range is best with a good battery, and the SS works quite a bit better than regular FM ones, I have a buddy who has the fm, model, we'd be parked next to each other and I could start mine, he couldn't start his. Mostly I think you have interference with buildling and such, that really cuts the range down, but on average I'd say mine works from 1/2+ mile range 80% of the time. Range is great, I'd say the alarm is ok. I think Viper makes a much better alarm, but the remote isn't probably going to help you if it goes off on the viper. Doubtful I ever try installing the alarm myself, though tempting as it is for as much as I paid. |

The install was not that much more difficult than anyother alarms, what got me was the programing, now matter how I tried it would not program, and also the range started to decrease after I a few months, even when I'm right up next to my car it take a few times for it to respond.

Sounds like you're clicking the button too fast, I did the same darn thing, make sure you are pressing the button long enough, a bit tricky it pissed me off big time until I figured out it was my fault.
