Default Tein Basics, Megan-Racing, or Helix DNA? 02 wrx

So yeah. Id like to start looking for a set of coilovers. My price range is about 1k. If any of you run any of these setups can you please share what you think about them? Im leaning towards teh Megan-Racing coils.

I dont track my car, but I love spirited driving Its a daily driver so i dont want it to be stiff as hell.

Input is helpful And yes, I have searched.

Thanks!

-Jeremy

If you don't race your car, why do you need coilovers?

Any of those choices are going to be pretty harsh compared to stock. Nice struts and springs would get you the same level of performance.

Why? For what purpose? Are you going to get realigned each time you make ride-height adjustments? Are you going to get cornerweighted initially?

Having been the coilover route, I now tell everyone that unless you're racing a lot and are very competitive, just get some good struts and springs, top with whatever brand of camber plates you like, and go to town. I didn't find coilovers worth it.

Just to add to what everyone else is sort of pointing at...

Coilovers really aren't a great thing for a daily driver. What you are asking about are the bottom of the barrel bargain brands / models. None of what you listed will ride as well as your stock struts and springs. Given the harsh ride and how they'll likely hop over bumps instead of absorbing them...they might not handle as well.

I've gone through 5 different suspensions. I have to agree with Turbojon...coilovers are useless for a daily driver and you can do just as well with springs and struts. I had budget coilovers for a year and hated them. The tokico d-specs and whatever brand springs were way more comfortable and cost me less.

You want to attack some mountain roads...get d-specs, prodrive STi springs, a 22mm rear swaybar (solid variety), front camber plates, rear camber bolts, and a decent alignment. It'll be about the same price as a budget coilover. It will be more comfortable as a daily driver. I will be more than sufficient for fun on mountain roads.

Trust me, if you buy budget coilovers you'll be kicking yourself and looking for something new within the first couple months.

I have BC racing coilovers. BC's factory makes the megans, the helix's, and several others. I've had them in my DD for many months now (6?) and still enjoy them. The ride isn't bad at all.

That being said I do race and take advantage of the adjustability.

how about people with 05 sti's with blown struts? we don't have options for aftermarket struts, should we opt for these coilovers for street use?

You've got 2 great options for aftermarket struts. The new Prodrive/Bilstein RB320 kit and Ohlins Fixed Perch struts.

Here's a good thread on the Prodrive kit, with some comparisons to the Ohlins later in the thread:
