Exclamation Urgent Head Gasket Help Needed!!!!!

Well found out my head-gasket blew out on my MY02 WRX. I have it at a shop outside of Allentown PA and I live down in Cape May NJ. The shope quoted me about $2000 to pull the motor and do the headgasket. If anyone knows of a cheaper solution to this please let me know!!! I would do it myself but I honestly dont know the first thing about pulling the motor nor do i have the facilitys to do it. Any help or advice would be great help! Thanks a lot ahead of time for anyone that can help with advice or options!

Sorry for your pain man. You were thoroughly bummed out at the track on Sunday, and understandably so. Normally I'd say call a few of the local shops, and price it out, but given your car is substantially modified, I'd take it to someone who has experience in this area...Someone in the Rallycross thread had suggested Area1320 in Nazareth, PA. I second this motion. They are the only local shop that I know of that has any kind of experience servicing modified cars, especially Subarus; they have a reputation for top-notch work. Their ph# is on their site: www.area1320.com/ . A few of the tri-staters even work there

I would bring it to another shop. But the more i've learned about the shop its at right now the more i think im going to let them do the work. Its at Phoenix Motorsports. Althought the price is a little bit higher than other shops, by the time i would flat bed the car to another shop start over it would end up being the same so im just going to bite the bullet. On another note i talked with some of the people i used to road race with and some shop owners i know of from various parts of the country, and several guys have raced against Phoenix before and everyone that knew them spoke highly.

Although thanks for the advice and help as stated before i think im just gonna bite the bullet pay the little extra and let them do what needs to be done.

Assuming your car is at ICY/Pheonix (same location as Pheonix Motorsports) then your car is at a GREAT shop. I'm sure the cost is more but if you have the money then I would have them do the work.

For what it's worth ICY/Pheonix is the Subaru road-race team.

$2000 for a headgasket? **** i'd feel ripped off paying half that.
phoenix are good guys and all but damn.

if my engine asn't on my stand until next weekend i'd say you could bring it here and do it, but sounds like you dont have time for that.

haha the car wont be sold sorry. You can ask any of the guys from the south jersey group that know me. I probably will never sell the car. Sadly this is the first time i've ever had to bring it to a shop to do anything other than mounting new tires and align them. Outside of that all the work on the car was done by me and the occasional friend helping out.

Theres been some slight changes since these shots but thats her for the most part

If it's just an external leak, I'd still drive it.

it was pushin air bubbles into the coolant system causing random overheating. Not really driveable but for a mile or two at most.

Rob you gonna go with a new short block? Or just the gasket? Your boss was talking to me about it a little bit. Oh and I am painting my FMIC tomorrow.
