Default Bugatti Chiron Hit 60mph In 2 Seconds

Quote:
How to replace a modern-day supercar legend like the Bugatti Veyron? Why, with an even faster, more tech laden and brawnier hypercar, of course. The new May 2015 issue of CAR magazine lifts the lid on the new 2016 Bugatti Chiron - revealed in our exclusive artistís impression by Motor Forecast above.

This is a hypercar unlike no other, carrying on where the Veyron 16.4 left off and trampling all over the Top Trumps stats of cars such as the LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918.

Not in driver enjoyment and pure-bred thrills, perhaps, but certainly in all-out stat-off war. The new Bug sticks with 16 cylinders arranged again in W formation (a 14-cylinder engine was contemplated, our sources report), with power set to top 1500bhp for performance figures to shame some F1 cars.

Bugatti Chiron: the full story only in CAR magazine

To read the full story of the new Bugatti hypercar, donít miss the new and improved May 2015 issue of CAR magazine out now in print and digital editions. Click here for a full preview to see how weíve improved your favourite motoring mag.

We visit Bugatti HQ to see the final Veyron, CAR magazine, May 2015 issue

We spill the full beans on the Chiron in a 12-page feature on Bugatti, as we visit Molsheim while theyíre finishing the last-ever Veyron, soon to be eclipsed by another hypercar expected to be named after a racing driver: in this case, one Louis Chiron.

Raw specs of new Chiron

CARís scoop dossier reveals some startling statistics, that make even the most powerful Veyron Supersport look a little lacking in the trouser department:

Maximum power 1500bhp
Torque target 1106lb ft
Projected top speed 288mph
0-62mph time 2.0sec

Donít miss the full story in CAR magazine to find out more: why the project has been delayed from a proposed 2015 launch date to 2016 after Volkswagen chairman Ferdinand Piech sent it back to the drawing board; why 92% of the parts are new or modified over the Veyron; and why this Bug will be even more useable day-to-day.

This will be the new tech showcase for the VW brand - featuring cylinder deactivation, electric-actuated turbocharging and direct injection, to make sure the Chiron will be able to achieve 14mpg. The Veyron could drain its fuel tank in just eight minutes at full chatÖ

Make no mistake, Bugatti is aiming to redraw the supecar boundaries yet again. Can the Chiron succeed? Let us know in the comments below!

0-60 times for cars like this are just silly metrics at this point. They're as much about tires, ambient conditions, launch control programming, and the level of abuse you're willing to subject the vehicle to.

What a crazy time we live in where passenger vehicles have 1,000+ hp. We have Honda Accords with darn near 300 hp. My first car was a 80s Civic with < 80 hp. It's great to be a motorhead. This car definitely needs one of those "Buy a Hybrid, I need the gas" license plate frames.

What's silly about hitting 60 in 2.0 seconds? That's what I thought.
Save the cliche.

Old post...

But he was responding to the guy who brought up the new 911 Turbo going faster than 2.0. He was just saying that the 0-60 metric in cars with this kind of power isn't really telling of the outright speed of the car.

0-60 is the best and only necessary performance metric. Going any faster would be illegal anyways. And Tesla is still better because you don't need to kill dinosaurs to make them go.

Someone cool, smart, and fashionable, obviously.

Video posted above was entertaining. Maybe cheap Veyrons due to Chiron release?

I'm sure i'm one of the few, but I find Bugatti cars to be rather ugly.

No, I agree. But I think their aim is to be more distinctive than beautiful. That being said, I appreciate the tech behind the cars. 1500 HP from the factory is unreal.

I agree. I'm partial to the rear-view; I think Bugatti does a nice job there, but the front end is a bloody mess.

Automotive equivalent of a butterface.

I wonder how much money VW loses on each one of these things.
