I chuckled at all the butt hurt in this thread. It's classed appropriately and the SAC will review it's performance throughout the year. Having served on an advisory committee and spoken to members of the SAC about various cars I know they watch things closely including how things stack up at locals across the country.

Unless everyone is trying to be bleeding edge and planning on going to a bunch of national events (including nationals) while realistically thinking you can win, just go drive and enjoy the car. Write another letter toward the end of the year showing actual results rather than conjecture proving your case and you'll have a lot better luck convincing them the changes are meaningless for autox.

That being said, gear/weight/power/spool time/wheel width/etc are big deals in street class autox and whether or not the car is competitive in BS doesn't matter if it would be an over dog in DS. No AC these days is going to class a car they think is an over dog that's also very limited in number. The RA (and S209) are more limited than most and putting a $50k car into DS (populated by mostly $20k-$30k cars) that's hard to get and also has the potential to upset some of the apple cart is not in the best interest of the class. Thinking objectively, who would you rather upset, a small group of people with a limited car or everyone else already in the class? Especially if that small group has not provided proof (by putting known good drivers in the car against known good cars) that their cars have no advantage and should be classed somewhere else?

But they didn't just class the RA that way, they classed all 2019's as well. From the Fastrack information it looks like the ONLY reason they are classing those cars in BS is due to the third gear change... Thats not even funny cause we barely hit third gear.

At locals, no, at national events, yes.

For the sake of debate since nothing we say here will have any affect on the outcome:

We know the STi will not be competitive in BS at a national level. It is in a class of RWD well balanced cars. (Corvette and M1/M2)

As for the power/gearing/weight/cost/ect. The top dogs in DS will be likely the CTR and the Camaro again. But even the RS is classed in DS.

Power to weight ratios put the 19 STi at a large disadvantage still.
19 STi 149.0
18 Focus RS 163.1
19 CTR 161.0
19 Camaro 160.2
Edit: These were based on W/kg (just did some quick searching.)

Price point they are all pretty comparable.

I'm planning on running my '19 at nationals this year in BS. If nothing else to just get data.

Watts/ Kilogram? Are you a communist? Just kidding- nice comparison, but much more important is the suspension geometry and the tires available that will fit. Handling and track width are more important than power in autocross.

LOL! It was just what popped up on the quick searching I did. :P

I'm bored at work so I'll do some google searching. (These are just quick google searches. So take that with a grain of salt.)

2018 Focus RS
Wheel specs: 19x8
Track Width: 61.2-61.6***8243; front, 60.4-60.6***8243; rear

2019 CTR
Wheel specs: 20x8.5
Track Width: 63***8243; front, 62.7***8243; rear

2019 STi
Wheel specs: 19x8.5
Track Width: 60.2***8243; front, 60.6***8243; rear

2019 Camaro
Wheel specs: 18x?? square (245) or 20x?? split fitment. (245/275)
Track Width: 62.5-63.4***8243; front, 62-63.7***8243; rear

Ran locally today in SM for fun even though the car is prepped for BS.

Car did a hell of a lot better with light 18's and RE71R's thats for sure. Not sure if a swaybar will help the bodyroll. Car did pretty good matched up to full SM prepped Subaru's that were there, but I don't think it will be competitive in BS at all.

My first event will be April 14th. I don't think I'll have tires yet so I'll be running the stock 19" with stock tires. Which I'm not looking forward to, but I don't think I'll have an option at this point.

What was going on with that course? Is it normal to have a pair of 1st gear pin turns? Sheesh.

Who is in the Bay Area that runs in SM? I'm not familiar with any cars from that area.

Actually no, I don't think we have had hairpins like that in YEARS in the Sac region lol

The events we had last year at Thill were more flowing than this one was:

It was Sac region not the Bay Area. Local event folks only they don't run nats. Just some friends from local meets and autox who drive Subarus.

I've been with the bay area for a few years now. Can't say there are any VA's in SM. At least not regulars. A decent amount of pig noses and blob eyes.

I was MIA last season because of work/weddings, but I do not recall any one outside of myself (in BS class) regularly attending in a VA.
