Default How much should I ask for a trunk swap?

So I have a 19 STI and someone in my local group has a WRX in the same color and is looking for someone to do a trunk swap with.

I know I had seen some people with STIs looking to go wingless and were looking to get extra cash from the person with the WRX and I mentioned this to the dude and he said he had never heard that.

How much should I be asking for in cash to go with the trunk? I should definitely be asking for money to go with it right?

I always figured it was a straight swap. I might be wrong. I traded my 05 Wrx trunk for an sti trunk straight up. It was a couple of years ago and mine was carbon fiber but it was straight up. Itís really up to you I guess what you want to do.

I've never done it, and i'm sure many will chime in eventually here. But knowing a WRX guy wants a wing, wings cost money, if he were to go buy one, have it paint matched, drilled out, etc... that would cost a few hundred to $1500. Only a guy who has done it knows that pain and associated cost.
Therefore, I would think $100 -$200 ask would be fair for someone giving up a wing, and the guy receiving it would be saving a bunch of hassle and money.!!!

***EDIT*** then again, if you are both getting what you want, who really cares if cash is exchanged!

If I had the STI I’d ask him for the trunk and $100, that’s what I’d expect to pay/offer. Those spoilers plus paint are over $500 giving that away for free seems kinda crazy to me.

I agree that if you both get what you want then it’s a wash. Personally if I was to take my wing off I would just get a wrx trunk and have both options.

I've never heard of getting free wing. 100$ sounds fair. Even the aftermarket replicas will run him ~500$ + the pain of drilling into your trunk lid. On the contrary it will cost you to take the wing off and fill the holes and blend paint. Up to what you value, but I'm sure you can find someone ready to put a wing on their wrx that will see the value in paying 1/5th of the bills to get what they want.

Here in CA swaps go around 350-500$ depending on color/seller

Styles and trends change. It used to be people intentionally took wings off and would pay extra for non-STi wings because they didn't have to pay to weld the holes shut and repaint.
