Default Tow Hook Question

i was curious if anyone had a set of nukabe or benen tow hooks (front and back) laying around that i could possibly look at and get dimensions off of. im thinking of having the machine shop where i work make me some up out of this scrap metal. lance said he may have a cad file for it, but if not i need some dimensions. im sure they are the same, but if it matters its for a 02-03.

thanks

just design and make your own. Take a scrap piece and hold it up under the car and mark how long you want it and make it yourself.

haha, or cardboard. I am just good enough I only need to do it once. If he is making 1 for his car If he is making 1000 of these to sell then things would be different.

1. use a scrap piece draw on it with a pencil (20 minutes)
2. use the plasma cutter to cut out out (10 mintes)
-2.5 Test fit
3. grind it all smooth (20 mintues)
4. weld the flange on the end (15 minutes)
5. Drill a couple bolt holes (10 minutes)
-5.5 Test fit
6. paint it. (30 minutes including dry time)
7. BAM! it's done! Install it (10 minutes)

It shouldn't take more than 3 hours I am guessing

After all that your "tow hook" will look something like this...

I think making your own design would be better rather than copying other peoples. Just my .02

I agree with Brody in making one your own so you can say you are the only one who has that!

but once a tow hook is designed and its a very well designed hook funtionally and cosmetically you stick with it cause it works. but either way man it's going on your car so you have to like it!

and I have a rear hook from 801sti and it's perfect except for the fact that the bracket was backwards but it's strong enough that it doesn't need to be bolted to the one side. great tow hook in my opinion!

my front tow hook on the other hand is not perfectly made, it was kind of chopy on the rounded parts (so pretty much you can tell it was home made), this is the one I bought from not-ewrx, whether it was his own design or whatever it works and does its job, however even after I painted it, it still looks like crap. but I didn't like the small ones they make for front tow hooks so I bought it, it was a good price I think and like I said it does what it's supposed to do.

and on the note of stealing or copying your design (not-ewrx) did you have a patent on it? I kind of doubt it and if you stopped making them anyway why does it matter if someone improved on what you designed and sold some?! let it go or prove that you designed it before anyone else and put a patent on it.

I don't and no I don't but put yourself in my shoes. I put hard work into coming up with it just for someone to come along and steal my design. I don't care anymore, I'm not going to be making anymore, but it's still messed that he stole my idea.

^^are you talking about how to drill the hole through the front part of the hooks so the tow strap can be hooked onto?

I don't really know whats the easiest.......but I would think just the plasma cutter that you would already be using for the rest of the hook, or some sort of large round metal bit, haha but like I said I don't work with things like that so I'm probably way off. haha

no, thats not what im talking about.
the holes and everything will be way easy. im talking about the lettering around the eye hole. like how "Nukabe" has it around the eye. i want ideas of what could be engraved there

haha eh who cares if you were to possibly make more to sell or anything like that at least you could stamp them with your name and then people would know who made it and where to go to get one, or like a company name kinda thing. haha

but personally I would most likely put Mush04 or just Mush on mine if I did something like that.
