Angry ATTN: Certain SE Forum members

I am about tired of some of the BS that some of you are continuing to stir. This is a message board full of differing opinions and ideas. Not everyone thinks or expresses themselves the same. Likewise the moderators have differing levels of tolerance. There are 3 moderators to keep it sane here; myself, matt in fl & deadbolt. If we feel something is amiss we do something about it. If you feel that one of us is in the wrong try and work it out off the board. If that doesn't work there are 2 more of us to discuss it with. If the few that are continually causing the riffs in this forum can't calm down themselves, I will calm things down for you.

You all know who you are, and if your not sure PM me and ask.

Grow up.

OK after a relaxing hour drive home through wonderful Tampa traffic I had some thoughts regarding our little forum, read on...

This forum is somewhat unique to all of the other forums, at least in the way it is moderated. For the most part, the South East Forum is very similar to the way things were when this website was www.impreza-rs.com. The SE forum is very easy going and very tolerant. There are a few things that are not, and never will be tolerated:
1. No F-bombs or S-bombs.
2. No street racing posts
3. No personal attacks.

It seems that rule #3 has been difficult for some of us to follow lately. I said it above and I will say it again, this is a message board full of differing opinions and ideas, not everyone thinks or expresses themselves the same. Something that you read and think is offensive may have been posted innocently but came out the wrong way. Likewise the three moderators here have differing levels of tolerance and different ways of handling each situation that arises. None of us are dictators and if a mod does something that you feel is inappropriate you can always bring it up to one of the other mods.

We are all human, there are people and opinions on this site that some of us do not like. There are also some members that even have personal problems with other members. This forum is not the place to discuss or take up any of these issues and/or problems. If you have a problem with another member it needs to be handled off the forums, either by e-mail, PM's or in person. If it can't be handled via these methods I would strongly suggest that you ignore the person you are having a problem with while on the forum. I personally am tired off the attacks and comments and think it is quite childish.

If any of you forgot, all of you agreed to follow a set of rules when you registered here, if you need a refresher here's the link.

This site is for Subaru enthusiasts to share information, to make friends and socialize in general. If the SE forum population cannot do that and continues on the way it has been going my solution will be an easy one...I will ask all the moderators to start moderating by the letter of the rules, off topic posts will be moved to OT, For Sale posts will be moved to the Classified, anything that could go somewhere else will. Warning points will also be heavily used.

Personally, I would rather keep it the way it has been, for the most part the forum has been self-moderated and I only get involved when asked or when I think it is necessary. I don't get any reward or pay for moderating, I do it because I am a huge fan of the Subaru brand and I have met thousands of people that share that enthusiasm with me. I am the most easy going person you will ever meet (those that have met me can vouch ), anyone here can come to me with any issue, problems or concerns and will be treated fairly.

I hope you all agree. You've gotta get me pretty pissed to type this much and I don’t like getting pissed.

Will
(a.k.a. Opie)

EDIT: Decided I would open the thread if anyone would like to reply, keep it on topic and follow the three rules please.

I hate to do this, but I feel it is important for me to be blunt and honest (while being respectful of course).

I have noticed over the past couple of months that this forum has a number of personality clashes. Those clashes are not exclusive to subscribers.. moderator(s) here seem to be afflicted with this same problem.

I am not one to point fingers or say that telling people to chill out is not fair, but I do believe it is important to ensure that the title 'moderator' is a respected one. I am not saying that I have personally witnessed any kind of gross behavior issues with one or more of the moderators here, but we're all human, and that means none of us are perfect. If one moderator can't be counted on to be a respectful member of the board, how can any moderator be respected? Power should not be without self control. And in all honesty, there seems to be a slight breakdown in that control (at least in one particular thread).

With that said, I think that everyone needs to have a little more respect for one another. That means being mindful of our tone, and understanding the consequences of our comments. Regardless of intent, careless comments are often met with injury. People don't like having threads hijacked by ANYONE (moderator or newbie) under any circumstances, especially not circumstances that become personal attacks.

I'm sorry to rock the boat, but I personally did not appreciate what just happened. And you know what, it wasn't on our end.

Brief Synopsis:

Settle down boys!!!!!!!!!!!!

Midnight_Gold - I must reply to your comments, specifically the comments about the thread "hijacking" earlier. The mod in question was making an innocent warning regarding warranties, then the thread went south after that.

Quote:
Something that you read and think is offensive may have been posted innocently but came out the wrong way.
Regardless of what anyone "thought" the warning implied, it was simply a friendly warning.

For the record:
This forum is "watched" by representatives of SOA. And I personally know of several cases where warranties were denied specifically due to what the owner had posted here.

As I stated, rule #3 needs to be followed here...no pointing fingers.

I stay in the SE forum quite a bit(8 plus hrs a day) and enjoy the comarderie that seems to be more prevalent here than other regions.I think we do a pretty good job of "keeping it in the family" and hope we can continue to...I wont pretend to have any idea of where the problems seem to come from, but I realize that different upbringings are going to bring different opinions about the same subject. I've never had any problems with anybody I have met or posted with on this forum(and thats rare in these days).I've never met the mods personally, but it's got to be a tough job. Sorry for the babbling, but I just believe the SE is the best regional forum on the board and I want it to continue..

Thanks

Hey Opie, that's cool.. I'm just calling it as I see it. In the end, if it's an issue, it will be an issue regardless of what you or I or anyone else says. I agree with enewtabie.. good to have stuff taken care of in house..

Whoah, apparently I missed the boat on this one.

Anytime anyone has an issue with me they are more than welcome to come talk to me in person (although I'm not involved in this particular episode of As-NASIOC-turns). Just catch me at my favorite hangout:

From I-85, get on I-385N into Greenville.
Exit Haywood Rd, turn left.
Turn left at 2nd light between the 2 banks (I think that's Congaree)
Then travel down until you see Alltel on the right, turn right onto Gladys.
Travel down this narrow street until you see the lighted sign with the big grinning chicken on it.
Then just come inside and find teh Biggly!

That's why you have to come out to the Dragon meets I've met them all, albeit briefly, but this should sum it up.

deadbolt is a ripe bastard, because he won't trade and give me his pollen-proof car

mattinfl ..... I don't think I can trust that boy, he's one of those Toronto Maple Leafs fans. You know how they are!

Opie is..... well.. I don't really remember. His daughter's cuteness weighs out over anything you'll remember about meeting Opie himself. I think she was just as eager to go do the Dragon as any of us Subaru owners.

All in all, this is a good group. The Dragon meets are evidence of that. We can all get together and just have a good time.... none of the usual "import scene" crap and egos that some other groups have to put up with.... just good people. I think we actually make the mods jobs fairly easy, until the occasional little outbursts. I still wouldn't want to do it, though

I can recall one problem this forum helped rectify with an immediacy that still warms my heart. I am forever grateful to Porter for his efforts in lending his time and effort to help right a wrong. Yes, there was the airing of some dirty laundry, but this forum was the quickest and easiest method to inform the South East Region of another member’s blatant attempt to circumvent the law for his own gains.

Because we are a close-knit community we also share some of the dynamics of a family. Sometimes we can’t seem to get along, but when it really matters we are there for one another.

I cannot pretend to know why this thread was started, but I can take a few educated guesses based on what has been said and/or inferred. When a person takes exception with another’s behavior or post it might behoove that individual to remain silent. Not every person’s opinion needs to be expressed in public.

Now drive forth ye minions of the South East and spread the gospel as the prophet Opie has written it. The good word is indeed good.

I think this deserves a big Amen. Just because someone posts something different than you believe, or they post a disagreement with something you say/post/do/write/etc. there is no reason to attack them, make snide comments, or be a general smarty pants.

The personal attacks have gotten way out of hand lately, almost with a mob or gang mentality; one person disagrees with something and then kaboom, it really hits the fan. The past couple of weeks we have gotten more requests to close threads, delete threads, warn people, etc than I have seen in the 2 years I have been a moderator here.

The issue from yesterday is DEAD, there is no need to dredge it up again, and anybody who can't let it die will not like the results of their loss of control.

Have a good day everybody, be safe.

Personally

Out of all the forums I read on a regular basis, I find this one to be the least annoying. There are so few trolls and idiots here, that it makes it generally pleasent.

I guess that is why what happened yesterday seems even more out of place. On a normal forum, that woulnd't even have been noticed simply because it would be a common thing, but here, where everyone is generally mature and friendly, it just seemed way out of hand.

In any event, I will always side with the mods in things like this. I spent a long time modding a forum with 10k members and I know the hell it can be on people who do it for free.

Great job Deadbolt, Opie, and Matt!

I know....us socalists from north of the border....

On a more serious note though, due to my lengthy and soon ending unemployment, I've had a LOT of time to visit other forums. It always impresses me that this forum covers such a large area that the people can get along quite well. I'd feel comfortable just showing up at a meet in Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Orlando, or anywhere else. Granted, I've been to most of these places and know many of you that are on here personally, but it seems friendly enough that I wouldn't feel intimidated as if I was entering a rival gang's territory.

As always with more car sales, more members will join and we just hope that they have a positive experience when visiting.

No no Matt.. it's not Canadians, just Maple Leaf fans And you better not step foot on our turf again, or we might have to breakdance battle!

Again though, I feel like anywhere I go in the SE, I can say "Hey, I'm gona be in town, anybody want to grab a bite to eat"... and somebody will be there to hang out, act friendly, and take up the offer. So far, we've only had one bad egg that I can remember, and he was dealt with quite swiftly.

Speaking of the in town thing...

Hey guys, I'm gonna be in Atlanta on Labor Day weekend for DragonCon. Anybody want to get some food one night while I'm there? Anybody (Miranda) want to give me a ride in their car (Miranda)? Please (Miranda)!

I think it is good that the mods posted this, because this is what keeps our fourm from turning into club si!! Everyone on those fourms are looking to talk trash, and that is the only purpose the fourm serves. I feel that we have one of the coolest fourms going!! And our mods are just trying to keep it that way!

I think the rise in discontent and aggression in the SE forum can be directly linked to the decline of Snowman's MSPaint pictures. As soon as he starts posting them again, all will be well since all the SE members will be happy once again.

Go draw us a picture, bi................

err...not gonna call him that. I'd rather survive another year
