But once someone tears into the motor I would be wary of who touched it. Any big name like IAG or Outfront Motorsports or RalliSpec I wouldn't be worried about as far as build quality goes, but who put together the rest of the engine and with what parts, and were the parts clean? Used oil cooler, avoid at all costs. Longetivity is going to entirely depend on how the tune is, how it is maintained, and how the car is driven. A bone stock car with a stock tune won't last if you abuse it all the time, just like a built motor with bolt ons and a tune won't last if you beat on it all the time. A built motor by a reputable engine shop with professional installation, a good tune, and regular maintenance will last just as long as any other car. Plenty of Sti's over 500whp have been on the road for 5+ years because they're taken care of, but you do have to be careful about it. Get receipts and service records if applicable before buying and bring someone that knows Subaru's well (especially modified) to have them look at it. Hope this helps!
Super helpful and completely agreed. My last car I bought had an IAG block and I felt comfortable as IAG provided a 1 year warranty.

I did some yelping and googling and found all but 1 review of them building Subaru engines. Not enough to make me feel comfortable.

the seller did lower the price to $10,000. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/d/mountain-view-2004-subaru-impreza-sti/6960462449.html

Id be curious to know what some of you think of the car in relations to the price.

I think the best line of that guys listing is where he says no test drive unless cash in hand.

Ancient car, half the parts have already been replaced by somebody, and the motor is ULTRA custom built by somebody, AND he states that it has been tracked.
If he actually makes that statement in a listing that means it was tracked heavily.

A rational person knows that when they modify a vehicle that extensively for track use they are doing that for their own enjoyment and understand their money was spent, it is not an investment. This guy used up the car and now he thinks he's going to get it all back.

Sadly, he might. (the good news is, you get to see if it has immediate major operating problems right after you hand over the cash, and not a second before)
