depends on your 6MT. 02-03 5MTs have female axles and male axle stubs on the transmission. if you have an older 04 6MT, it will be the same design, but subaru switched to male axles sometime in '04.
you need to look at your 6MT and see if there are axle stubs or not. If no axle stubs, either get 5MT axle stubs (bitch because you have to disassemble the 5MT to get them), get 6MT axle stubs from dealership, or get the male DOJ's for your axles, or 6MT front axles. those are in order from least to most expensive. I just did the swap, took around ~6 hours complete with changing the rear end with a 3.90 suretrac R160. my 4EAT propshaft flange would not bolt to USDM diff flange - bolt pattern is off. my USDM propshaft would bolt to JDM R160, but of course it was too long. so pay careful attention to your rear diff flange and propshaft flange. have fun! |

My 6MT does have axles stubs, So I am assuming that the wrx axles are the same as the STi axles on the transmission side?, I'm just trying to figure out what my plan on attack is, cause when i took out the R160 and rear axles, I found out that the STi axles are longer on the diff side and larger diameter for the wheel side. So I was under the impression that maybe I would run into the same problem with the front and this swap would cost more than i would of hoped. But if Im correct, I would be better off getting a 3.90 ring for the R160 and everything would be good.
What happens to the center diff if the DCCD isnt wired up? |
