Default Mercedes-Benz AMG to replace 6.2L V8 with 5.5L twin-turbo V8 units

http://www.egmcartech.com/2009/12/15...8egmCarTech%29

Quote:
If you’re a fan of big engines – something like the 6.2L V8 in the new SLS AMG – you better get your hands on one soon, because Mercedes-Benz AMG is considering phasing out the engine next year.

According to Dr. Thomas Weber, a member of the board at Daimler AG Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, the 6.2L V8 will be replaced by a twin-turbo 5.5L V8 at the end of 2010. Speaking to Inside Line, Weber didn’t discuss any horsepower numbers; nonetheless you can expect the engine to be more fuel efficient.

Weber said that AMG won’t be the only vehicles seeing the change next year. Other 2011 Mercedes-Benz models will also be getting V8 twin-turbocharged units. An official announcement is expected at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

Factory forced induction is always a good thing. MB tuners all around the world just jeezed their pants.

there is a reason i held onto the forced induction mercedes...its because the 6.2 doesnt deliver...get me a v8 tt benz...and im in

aftermarket will be great for it. now if they can only make a bullet proof 6 speed over the 5 speed torque monster in the 55k and 65tt cars...i would be able to get good highway mileage

This is Mercedes trying to be Audi. Boo, Mercedes. You will never make a car as perfect as an Audi. Turbo lag will be measured in minutes. Another FAIL.

I personally like the 6.2 NA and with a few tweaks you can get close to 600hp in a C63 which is insane!

I do understand the economic situation however and understand the push to have better fuel economy.
