Injen cai - paid 200 Blitz Axle back mounted up to A'pex-i N1 Mid pipe - 370 for exhaust, mid pipe was left over (roughly 100-120) From a friend No proven, but definitely noticeable high end enhancement, no noticeable loss of low end Exhaust is a bit loud, makes interior cabin some what unenjoyable to be in, intake is a PITA to install, and needs a lot of tweaking if not properly installed. Would definitely buy both again if I had to, I would opt with a custom made mid pipe instead next time, the apexi was a headache to fit to the blitz. A good idea would to be to gut out the orange vent in the bumper, and pop out the signal lamp if you're hitting the track. |

Rallispec - paid $25 ![]() Greddy EVO catback - $250? Both used in the private classifieds. Likes: Sounds awesome, revs a bit easier, definitely faster, fairly quiet at cruise, sounds stock at idle. Dislikes: My filter keeps falling off (the intake is missing a few pieces ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Powah gains: A friend's car put down 129hp on Cobb's dyno with the Rallispec, borla headers, pulleys, and some catback. Made 133 w/ a Cobb with the Rallispec catch can. Videos if you want to hear my car... http://www-personal.engin.umich.edu/~jmclachl/ EDIT: Put the Cobb on today. I like it a lot more. Power delivery is smoother and it's a lot quieter. JC Last edited by JC; 04-18-2003 at 05:40 PM. |

Intake: Weapon R $180 forget where I got it Exhaust: Apexi N1 cat back $520 from Rollhard Performance Likes: I must admit that I love the sound, but it is loud. When getting on the throttle the weapon R screems to life and scares the crap out of those around me ![]() Dislikes: The occasional backfire, due to the intake. Slight loss in low end torque but it does not bother me too much. At WOT the sound from the intake rattles the hell out of the cabin, oh well. Power gains: Like I said I think the combination works well together. Significant improvements in top end, but still all around greater performance across the power band. No dyno results, just guessing maybe 10-15hp increase from the combo. Comments: After extensive searching on the board about intake/exhaust combos I chose this one. Very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend it to other RS owners. ![]() |

Intake: Cobb Tuning (used $200) parts to modify for MAF (~$70) Likes: Huge power gain... Little or No low end loss... Increased Throttle response... Pulls Hard to redline... Distinctive Sound Dislikes: No model offered by Cobb tuning for my98-99... Due to modifying for the MAF was a bit expensive Exhaust: MRT Header back w/ Greddy Evo Axleback (used MRT $300, Used greddy axleback $120, cost to mate axleback to midpipe $20) Likes: Price (even new this system is far cheaper than any other header, hi flow cat, catback combo)... Best Dyno proven gains I have seen yet (and it translates well to the butt dyno)... Good design (first header I have seen for a subaru w/ an 'H' pipe to equalize pressure)... Equal length... Greddy EVO keeps things low and quiet, but not as quiet as the MRT axleback... Dislikes: Mild Steel construction (this is more of a mental thing... i have yet to hear of an MRT system rusting anywhere other than the muffler)... Sound is not as good as the borlas, it's a bit raspy at high RPMs, but this is more common with equal length headers and well worth the trade off for power... Other: Even brand new, the combination of these would cost right around $1000 and would be almost the same as a cobb stage 2, just minus the crank pulley... I chose these mods purpously as they all got great reviews and result in large power gains... Happy Mod Hunting... |

Intake: Cobb Tuning ($175 used) Likes: Great power gain....great distinctive sound....hardly any loss down low....nice increase on throttle response. Dislikes: NONE Exhaust: MRT Headerback w/ gutted cat and Magnaflow Axle-back ($400 used) Likes: PRICE obviously. The sound is amazing. Butt dyno proven to provide great power increases. Best dyno proven gains. POWER POWER POWER. The car pulls a LOT harder since I installed the exhaust. Equal length rules. You can hear my car coming from over a block away when I get on it. If you like loud, then this is definately the exhaust for you. Power gains: About 20hp at the wheels from the exhaust alone, another 10 or so from the intake. Comments: One of the best combinations for exhaust and intake out there. If you like the sound of the Cobb intake A LOT, with these headers you wont be able to hear the intake. |

CAI type and Cost: 3" tube from right fender to stock air box. $150 shipped to my door. Exhaust type/size Cost: Borla 2nd Gen. Headers, Stromnung Cat-back and SS Dual Tip Exhaust. Place of Purchase: Private Buy from this board. CAI: Larry Ganz CAI w/ K&N air panel Exhaust:Borla and Stromnung Likes: Haven't dyno the car yet. But I was able to make 15.2 avg 1/4mile times @ Atco 70 degrees outside. Best time was 15.0089 Dislikes: Noise level isn't bad at all. very quite inside the cabin but outside very deep and nice rumble due to the Borla. As for power loss some low-end power loss due to the larger diamerter pipes and lost of air banks for intake, but still more low-end torque than the 2.0 WRX. CEL 24/7 due to the free flow exhaust. Other Comments: I would highly recommend this setup for urban areas. Where street racing is prone. Nice low tone but at WOT very loud and intimeidating. On the street I can take most Naturally Aspirated Imports and V6 Musscel. What make my races interisiting are turbo-ed imports or factory turbos. Well worth the price I paid. |

Exhaust: Stromung Catback CAI: Ganzflow Headers: Borla - Arrive the 22nd I dont really know what gains these provided, I dont really remember what a RS drives like stock. The Stromung sounds good when its warmed up, when its not, for some reason its rattling against my rear diff even with Kartboy Hangers. I don't feel that I've lost any lowend torque, but I gained some power in the higher revs. With a Ganzflow CAI, K&N Panel Filter, Borla Headers, trackpipe, Stromung Catback, LW Crank Pulley, Exedy clutch and 13lb flywheel, and about 100lbs removed; I beat a stock WRX to 75 without launching. Intake/filter: Weapon-R (V2, not Dragon), paid ~$200 back in eary 00 from Challenger Deep Likes: Great power, good sound, incredible throttle response, noticed very little low-end loss. Compliments UD pulley tremendously. Works wonderfully with Cobb Street Cams, Still use filter today Dislikes: none Comparo to other CAI/filter combos: custom PDM style w/ cotton guaze (K&N style) cone filter (my 99), on MY00/01 Cobb CAI, Ganzflow. Comparo: Weapon-R on my MY99 even before cams had much better response and felt (butt dyno) quicker... others, smoother power delivery Exhaust: Custom (Arospeed/generic muffler, 2.25" catback, Catco high flow cat, cusom header), paid ~$100 for muffler, $80 Cat, custom exhaust/header ~$200 (installed in pieces from different exhuast shops) Likes/dislikes: Its custom, it sounds good and it didn't cost a lot of money. Dyno charts POST cams are posted in various forums Last edited by BOY; 04-17-2003 at 03:53 PM. |

CAI type and Cost: Cobb CAI/$260 Exhaust type/size Cost: Cobb cat-back/$570, gen 4 borla header/$290, high flow cat/$250 not installed Place of Purchase CAI: Cobb Exhaust: Cobb, Borla Likes: Nothoing beats Cobb's intake for performance. Exhuast is fairly quiet compared to some others I've heard. Borla header makes the car sound really good. No low end loss after header install. Dislikes: The CAI lost its little silicone thing on the end and rattles in the fender... I do not have the time to install the high flow cat or the tools and no one will touch it. The Borla header really didn't fit very well. It had to be heated and bent slightly to fit. Header also makes it a little harder to get to the oil filter for oil changes. Other Comments: I believe if I can get my high flow cat installed it will will let the Borla header work better. Borla isn't the BEST, but with a high flow cat section it is on par with any other header/cat combination for power. However I would not buy Borla again, because there are better choices out there. |

Intake: Cobb Love the sound! You can't hear it unless you are WOT in which case it sound awesome. Butt dyno was very happy. No loss down under, and better pick up in the top end. Exhaust: Blitz axle back, borla headers, custom in between BEWARE! very loud! But sounds incredible, the deepest, best sound 4 cylinder I've ever heard. No loss down under and PULLS very hard abouve 4k RPMS |

Very impressed with the sound. I have lost some low-end, but i like it, shifting isnt nearly as jerky as stock. Mid and high end is much improved. |

AEM short ram with follow optional air filter: APEXi Power Filter (DIY adapter) - now using - the best result I've got, love it. MonsterFlow - good lower rpm power output, but the high rpm seems dropping power by using it. AEM OE filter DragunFire universal Muffler plus custom-build cat-back mid-pipe. Extreme nice sound at high rpms, deep and loud (with out the silencer); just like the N1/5 Zigen cat-back! Likes: I'm fine with the setting for now so far, everything is good and enough for the EJ25 NA engine. Such as sound, low to high rpms pick up... just looking forward to have the header. Project coming up: I'm trying to DIY a 2nd intake system for the motor, more data will coming up. All sponsored, just the mid-pipe cost $140 weld-on with the muffler. |

Engine size: 2.5L Trans type: 5-speed manual CAI type and Cost: Aluminum tubing. Forgot, got it used. $135 I think. Exhaust type/size Cost: Semi-full exhaust system, 2.25", about $600 ~ $700. Place of Purchase: Lots of places. CAI: Akimoto Racing Sports Exhaust: Borla headers, stock cats, custom mid pipe, stromung dual tip muffler. Likes: Exhaust note is incredible; low rumble, sounds like WRX, and not too loud. Dislikes: Not that impressed with intake. Have to cover filter everytime car is washed or heavy rain falls. Other Comments: May be swapping out intake with top mount intake. ![]() -Jason |

![]() Hello, I'm new to this forum, and i was just wondering if there are any cases of hydro-logging the engine with a cai? I don't know if this was covered in a previous thread, but all my search attempts yielded naught... Perhaps my technical ineptitude is sabotaging the search tool?
![]() Edit* also, does anyone know where i might lay my hands on an Espelir JGT500 for a 07 2.5i? Is it made? Is it WRX/Sti only? Thanks again |
