![]() Building a EJ22 that is open deck N/a right now.
I got a great deal on it but it has the stock pistons and rods. I could turbo it as it sits and run like 8-9 psi of boost on stock compresion. or i was thinking of getting lower compresion pistons and stronger rods and running like 15-20 psi and really build the motor up. what do you guys think i should do. I plan on building the motor over the next 1 and a half so money is almost no option. I do want the car to be daily drivable but want to build it to handle SM auto cross classification. thanks, Erik S.

![]() If you want to stick with 2.2L, get yourself a 2.2 turbo legacy motor from a dealership. The shortblock should only be $1100-1200 and will have low compression pistons, oil squirters, and would be closed deck already. Probably capable of 15-18psi out of the box. The question would be, what type of boost/flow can your heads handle. You may need work there.

![]() I agree with getting the EJ22t shortblock if you plan on building your motor. I don't think you can close deck your block and get lower compression pistons and better internals for under $1k which is what a brand new EJ22t shortblock costs.
If it was me, I would just run the EJ22 as it sits until you blow something, then go for the gusto... I will most likely push the envelopes of the NA 2.2L motor when I'm ready to swap in my jdm motor in the spring or summer. |

![]() I don't want to hijack the post, but I've got a question about EJ22T motor.
Does the WHOLE motor cost around $1000 or only the block with crank, pistons, rods , heads ? If it's the block, can EJ25 heads be put on it ? What computer should one use to manage this engine (legacy ecu + piggy backs or standalone) ? Is wiring as difficult as swapping EJ20T or simpler ? Thanks ![]() |

![]() We're talking about a short block, which is block assembled with crank, rods, pistons, and associated rings & bearings. Yes, your heads should bolt up just fine.
