Not a very good fit in LHD cars though |

Legacy GT-B and IIRC some B4 Models as well.
no idea how they'd fit in a USDM Legacy Model...... could be interesting Jamie |

Won't fit LHD, master cylinder interferes. It is a good engine, but you would want to use normal WRX/Legacy Turbo exhaust manifolds and a single turbo on it...

I've ridden in one, there is a nice valley read (dead spot)between the turbos

Why make a twin turbo EJ20? What's the benefit of TT over a single turbo on the EJ20?

I have seen a twin turbo motor in a 96 USDM legacy, the guy had to make a custom exhaust manifold for the drivers side. Its way to much work when you can just get an STI motor for so little. |

^^ what he said. The car I rode in, if you shifted incorrectly, you would end up in the valley between the two turbos, and would have to wait a second for it to build up boost on the bigger turbo.

Primary turbo only up to about 4000rpm then both turbos together.

Anyway $900+ for an EJ20tt must be crappy engines or missing the turbos and IC and ECU, I'll have to look at the site harder. |

Old thread, but can this JDM ej20TT mount into the same place as all the other imprezas? And can the twin turbo be easily changed to a single turbo as to not have the master cylinder interference?

Yes, the motor fits mechanically, the problem is with the manifolds. As long as you switch to a single turbo manifold setup, you can use this motor.

Okay, bump.
EJ20TT = EJ20H/EJ20R. Was used in the Legacy from 1993 to 2002-3 So basically all turbocharged 2nd and 3rd generation Legacy models. To be honest you don't want a twin snail. They are the most complex and unreliable turbocharged setup that Subaru ever made. Then there is that lovely dead spot mentioned earlier called the Valley Of Death. But they do haul. I've driven a GT-B with no limiters at all and 200km/h was achieved uphill with ease and it was still pulling. Oh and the fuel needle drops faster than gravity when the secondary turbo gets involved at all. |

I have a JDM LGT spec B TT motor in my bugeye.
Crappy things: Motor mounts are different Inrake manifold/TB are different Tranny bolt pattern is different. Drivers side turbo doesnt fit. They dont have an oil cooler. Crank and cam position gears are different so USDM ECU wont run it. Good things: Better pistons, bigger valves, better cams, no TGV's, side feed injectors, higher redline, better timing belt setup, better timing gears, much better rotating assy balance, more balls lol So after converting it over to single turbo, a ton of work to get the USDM ECU to run it (custom TB adapter, custom cam gear, etc etc) it will go in lol |

2) Can't the turbo piping be rerouted to compensate for the master cylender? 3) Tranny bolt pattern mate with my 03 RS? Or be custom fitted (tap & dye set) 4) Does the USDM ECU not work because the wire harness doesn't mate? Can it be spliced/soldered to the propriate wire? I'm looking into getting an EJ20 TT from a JDM 95-97 Impreza to go into my 03 Impreza RS. I have adaquate knowledge of automotive system and have a WRX ECU coming my way. Will it work? |

2) no, brake master, brake booster, steering shaft are all in the way. with a LOT of fab work, it can be done, but its not going to be easy 3) drill, tap, die, you can make it work. the existing holes in the block DO match up to the ones in your tranny. the lower starter bolt is the main issue. it threads into the tranny in the JDM setup, where it threads into the block with the USDM tranny. so thats the main one that needs to be fitted, the others dont especially matter 4) the injectors are the only thing that will pulg in, and they need to be modified a little too. the TT motor doesnt have tgv's, the IAC motor and tps are different, but the main issue are the cam and crank position triggers, which have different number of triggers and different locations. the wrx ECU cannot work unless you modify the cam gear and replace the crank hub to provide correct wrx position signals to the ecu. but by using wrx sensors, wrx tb, and wrx wire harness, it can be done... I did it. |
