Does anyone have pics of the Curt hitch with a prodrive oval tip axelback? Is there clearance with the stock length hangers? I feel like the XL hangers push the tip down too far and it's not as flush with the bumper opening as I'd like. Currently running the drawtite hitch which requires XL hangers.

Has anyone found a hitch that would fit an 06-07 STi without having to cut the rear diffuser? I am wanting to get one so I can tow a tire trailer to autocrosses but want to be able to keep the car in Stock class. If I cut anything then that automatically takes me out of Stock.

You can take the diffuser off I am pretty sure. There are allowances for removing things to install a hitch. You would have to look it up though as I am far too lazy. I bought a Curt hitch for mine and just removed the diffuser for STU and haven't had anyone question it yet. The hitch is much heavier than the diffuser, so I would love it if all the people I race against did the same thing....

I thought it was one of those things that if it doesn't say that you CAN (remove parts) do it then you can't do it according to the rules. I seriously doubt someone would protest it but I would rather follow the rules to the T. I haven't read the rules on ST* classes but the stock class rules don't seem to allow any modifications at all to put on a trailer hitch.

Now you made me look up the rules and you may be right. It is just one of those things I wouldn't worry about, no one will protest you for that and if they do and that is your only issue it would never hold up.

I really don't think anyone would protest it and if I were only doing regional events then I could care less. But, I would hate to drive 8 hours or more and get protested for something stupid like that. I would much rather put the tires in the back seat and have no worries.

How did this work out for you - I am doing the same - I have to take a bedroom's worth of stuff from Milwaukee to DC. I hope it went well!

The night before I left, I parked the car on the street. Some person did a hit and run on me. No note, nothing. They missed the trailer entirely. It was hooked up all night.
The tow was fine. The car handled everything well. Oh yeah, I had the 5X8 trailer, not the 4X8. It still worked out great.

New to the forums

Interested in hearing any recommendations for towing a boat with a 2005 Baja sport with the OEM hitch. Specs for the Boat are Arima 1511 with Honda 50hp 4-stroke on a Venture bunk galvanised trailer estimate 1800#. I'm already looking at electric brakes and controller along with a transmission cooler and sway bars if recommended. Mostly going to be towing short distance but might occasionally travel further (400 miles) for a change in the sights.

Thanks

What exhaust hangers are you using?

Was any bumper trimming required?

I think I might switch to the Curt hitch.

Default Hitches, bitches

After looking at various threads and searches on trailer hitches, I still have a few questions hopefully some owners might have answers for.

The car this will be installed is a 2004 WRX with stock exhaust. Might move to a turboback setup at some point which deters me from considering the Draw-Tite, Uhaul, or Hidden Hitch brands. At this time, this will be used for a bike rack only with no need to the wiring harness

1) What has more exhaust clearance, the OEM, or the Curt?

2) I noticed the Curt only has 2 holes per side that attach to the frame, opposed to the other brands, and oem, which have 3 per side. Should I care?

3) Does the Curt still require cutting of at least the few inches of the bumper to the left of the exhaust?

4) I also noticed on the Curt, that the left most exhaust hanger is a appears a tad low. I've seen pictures with exhausts that are slightly tilted to the left. Is this an issue with various aftermarket exhausts on both the OEM and the Curt? Will they both correctly fit the stock exhaust without the tilt?

Thanks

I have the curt on my wagon with a maddad whisper turboback and it fits great, originally there was the tilt to the left however if you move the hanger and tighten the bolt you can get it to hold it pretty even, or you could get a longer hanger for the other side to even it out. My hitch is used exclusively so far for my thule t2 bike rack. I had to cut a small amount of my bumper to get the hitch to fit but you'd never notice it if you do a good job. I can't answer all of your questions but at least one or two and put in alittle .02

I have a 2004 Impreza WRX Sedan and I would like to do the installation on a Curt trailer myself. It doesn't look too difficult, but I don't know how I would trim the bumper.

What did you use to cut/trim the bumper?

Thanks for the info. Did you do anything to the cut edge to prevent chipping or paint issues? That's the one thing that concerns me being so close to the ground.

Also, how many bike have you had on simultaneously? I've read that 4 bikes for instance might be pushing the tongue weight. Any stability or weight issues with multiple bikes?

Thanks

I'm yet to install, but from what I've read folks are using sharp exacto knives or snips. I would think the exacto would produce a sharper, cleaner line.

2. i think it was half an inch. i need to see my car to double check
3. yes i had to notch a bit on the bumper.
4. after re-installing everything i did notice my OEM muffler was tilted. i got one kartboy extended exhaust hanger to fix the problem. later when i get a cat-back i plan to drill a new hole so i can tuck up the exhaust.
