Mine was/is (for the next few weeks) a U-Haul hitch... That is where I got mine and i've never had a clearance issue... And it goes up and over, not below, the muffler..

yea, i got the curt, and it has lots of room for exhaust.

I ran a hitch for the last year and a half, finally removing it the other day. I was tired of the odd little rattles here and there while running a stock muffler. Even with Kartboy long hangers, I still had some WOT noise. With a smaller aftermarket can, it would have been perfect. I'll probably still go that route this spring.

Anyway, I had some mounting issues with the 06, and it's rear diffuser. Using a soft mallet I had to push the diffuser mounting brackets out of the way as it comflicted with the hitch. I also had to modify my diffuser to make room for the hitch reciever.

It was a blast driving the STi into the mountains, then biking down.

Old offroad toy: Custom sandrail frame, 1600dp T1 VW motor/trans, on my little flatbed total wet weight was 1975 lbs.

Towing my quad and a friend's dirtbike:

And then my Outlander, and the girlfriend's Eiger (this flatbed is 2X2X.25 angle iron) with a total weight of 2400 lbs. Netted 18mpg at 70mph just over 500 miles round trip to the Oregon Coast sand dunes called Winchester Bay.

edit: factoids: UHaul hitch for $75 second hand, cut and modded (gusseted and supported when notching for Stromung exhaust). Car is on Eibach ProKits (wagon spec) and KYB AGX's usually on full stiff. 225/50/16 with rear lips rolled, no rubbing at all. On Kartboy stock length hangers 2 on the muffler only, all other hangers stock.

Whoa, a little more digging netted a good find. It was tire recycling day at "Casa de Bachelor", 52 if I remember correctly:

And then an early shot of my trailer frame before decking went down. Tubing is all 2X3 rectangle except rear is 4X2. Some 1.5 squ. in there too, painted silver to match. I sure miss the looks I used to get towing the sandrail with my wagon.

just a disclaimer towing with a subaru is okay but the more weight the harder it will be to stop and your car isnt that heavy; better to get a car for towing if you can.

Been towing ~2000 lb loads with my wagon for about 2 years montly now. Never had an issue. I wont let anyone else drive my setup though, unless they have some experience towing (keeping long stopping distances, no sudden lane changes, no high speeds, etc). I have really grippy brakes all around, decent swaybars f+r, and AGX/prokits. The car only suffers from a stop, other than that it drives great even with the heavier loads.

I wonder if anyone has had a brake controller and a trailer with brakes on a WRX.
trailer brakes are usually on larger trailers, but they can be put on smaller trailers, and to me that would really help stop the setup when towing full capacity
and a brake controller would be easy enough to install

I had a brake controller on my old RS wagon, and it definitely made it much easier to stop with the electric brakes on the trailer. The trailer weighed ~1900 lbs. Oh, and the controller was very easy to install.

I used to get some AWESOME looks when I was towing my bright yellow Sea-doo on the white jet-ski trailer, behind my WRB 99'RS.. It had to look so HOt, but, alas, I didn't take a SINGLE pic... silly me..

So I have my hitch installed on my 07 STI and am going to be wiring the car up soon. I have a few questions though. First, where do you guys run the wire from the battery, under the car or through the interior? Second, is there a hole in the trunk someplace to run the harness down to the hitch? Thanks in advance!

I ran the wire through the interior. There is a grommet in the firewall on the drivers side that you can utilize and there is another gromment under the wheel in the spare tire well that you can use for the rear.

Well, here's my addition to this tread.. Since then, I traded the baja for my WRX, and the bike is.. well.. sold

The basis for it, its a Hidden Hitch.. same as everyone else. But I custom fabricated a ramp setup to load my little motard into the back of my baja. Cool thing was, it was quick release, so setup was a breeze, the license plate cleared, and the ramp was short enough to fit sideways under the bike for easy storage. I've still got the hitch ramp setup, I was thinking about selling it, but the darn thing weights a whole heck of a lot..

question for you guys that intallled the hitchs, I am in the process of installing a curt hitch on my 07 wagon and was curious what you guys did with the brackets you had to remove to install the hitch, do they need to go back on, do they get left off. I'm specifically concerned about the tow loop one on the passenger side, and also what purpose did those brackets have was it for structure?

thanks hopefully i'll have some pictures to add to this thread soon enough

So it will be like towing with any other vehicle.

OEM hitch.
My wagon had zero issues pulling my Ultra 150 Jet Ski.

Here is a picture of it. I swear it's under there.

Those pieces get discarded (or kept if you're ever planning on removing the hitch). The one on the left side is a bracket for the muffler (which is now attached to the hitch), and the one on the right is a tie down bracket. They are not integral to the frame of the car.

Thanks so much, on the left side (drivers) i have to remove the muffler bracket and another bracket that was some what similar to the passenger side just minus the tow loop. The racks on now i just need to wait for my thule t2 bike rack to show up and than i'll snap some pictures of it

Great pictures. I am still waiting for my Curt to arrive. Hopefully this week. I will be wiring in my powered trailer harness today. It is odd but I am giddy like I am getting some awesome performance mod or something.

Finally i can contribute to this thread

mine is a curt hitch that is mostly used with my thule t2 bike rack however now i can finally tow my snowmobile around if i choose to and not have to borrow one of the suv's, not sure if i'm going to want to though
plenty of clearance with my maddad whisper and stock hangers.

I only have one of the bike carriers on my t2 because with both carriers in the right location the bike carrier hits the rear bumper and being down at school i have to leave the rack on the car at all times.
