Default exhaust questions

what catback exhaust would someone reccommend thats 3 inch and has a nice deep sound, thats going to increase horse and torque? (i also plan on adding catless up and down pipe) ill be replacing the rear cat with a highflow cat so hopefully i can still stay legal?

You need to read Unabomber's Manifesto. It's a sticky at the top of the Noob forum. Catbacks aren't going to add anything you can feel but the sound can be pure music! Favorites around here are the Prodrive, Stromung, Borla, and Scoobysport. Unless you are going for big power mods later, a 2.5" exhaust is plenty big.

I have the Stromung dual tip 2.5" and LOOOOVVVEEEE IT!!

yea im saying though doesnt getting bigger up and down pipes help in torque and power? because most of your restrictions are in the down and uppipes.

Cat backs give you little to no power but sound sooooo luvly. I have an APS 2.5" and never plan on getting over 300hp so no need for the 3" and there is no drone what so ever. But when you get on it.....I just smile ear to ear!!!!

ANd with our ej2.0 we will never have torque...and yes the Downpipe is the big resriction but be careful if go catless with no EM on MY04 and on.

That's why you keep a functioning baseball bat around and take a few crack swings at it and..... POOF !!! ..... No longer a functioning cat.... Class Dismissed.... Hehe

P.S - The power potential of a cat-less exhaust is greater than that one that utilizes a converter(s), simply because airflow it optimized at 100% free-flowing. However, a cat-less exhaust is said to be not-so-good for the environment and hence, illegal in most states. The decibel level of your exhaust will also be much louder with no cats to help absorb the sound waves. Needless to say, it's at your own risk.....

I personally think a cat-less car drives and breathes better, not that I would know anything about that or a certain TurboXS TBE.....

That's bad info. Catbacks on our cars give an average of 10whp and some as high as 15whp on an otherwise stock car.

The issues with running catless on a 04 has ben in the open/closed loop fuel transition that can cause stuttering and poor AFRs. Some cars do it some don't.

And as far as a recomended Cat-Back I'd suggest Espelir JGT500, sweet deep growl and 3" piping.

I have heard accidentally using leaded fuel ONCE can destroy your cats. (but don't take my word for it, i really have ONLY 'heard' this, i didnt do it).. but in these times of scarce fuel and anything to save a buck, it wouldnt be unheard of to accidentally fill up with leaded. oops. Unfunctioning cats and no baseball bat.

Where can you even find leaded gas these days (other than leaded race gas)? I don't recall seeing it at any gas stations in years.

it is illegal to remove a properly functioning catalytic converter and that aftermarket catalytic converters are not legal for installation in California on OBD II vehicles (some 1994 & 1995, and all 1996 and later vehicles).
Then there is this for the rest of the country:
Quote:

Under Federal EPA Regulations, replacement of original equipment catalytic converters is allowed only if the original converter(s) is missing, or the vehicle has more than 50,000 miles or is at least five years old and the need for a replacement has been established and documented, or a local inspection program has determined the existing converter is in need of replacement.
