Default Looking at the IAG 550 Performance longblock

Had some misfortune on my trip to NV. Looks like the stock turbo failed and sent some turbo glitter into the motor. Local shop to the area it happened gave me a 10k price on a OEM short block and a build off that. Built to OEM standards. What would you top off the long block with? I had bought all the parts to take stock setup to 300whp. Is this just over kill? I was ok in the 300whp.

04 FXT setup for on and off road driving. 2" lift. New Lift CV axles, POWER STOP Z26 Street Warrior brake system.

I did get new boost control, VF48 turbo, 565 injectors, Cobb tuner, CAI and some other stuff thats sitting on the rack waiting for me to have some time to upgrade her.

Either the shop employs Bill Gates as a mechanic or there's been a communication problem. If you are OK with 300, all you need is a new motor. Perhaps with forged pistons if you wanted to be extra sassy. I'd go back in and say, "Listen *******, what's the cheapest options for 300 as I'm not trying to dominate the world or spend $10k".

They are in Bend OR, And Bend is huge subaru place. I think they like to see a ROI for the name they built. I get it. Pulling it back home this weekend. If my internet and phone install gets done in time, I will head out of Norther NV this evening and get a car transport from Uhaul and make it happen. The stock 2.5's I can find are 3200/3500 shipped. 50k to 80k on them. this is a junk yard pull so its complete.

They were not interested. Sent me to a preformance shop that was better price for more power.

$10k seems awfully high

10k wow...A new RA block seems so tempting even if its still susceptible to ringland failures. I wish there was another option other than forged pistons to negative the issue. Especially for people not totally pushing the limits of the block but are still looking for longevity.

After looking for a used EJ255 with less then 80k and the cost with shipping ect its not making sense to drop the coin on a used unit. Found a sub tec about a hour away with a fresh rebuild long block at 4300ish. If I add all the parts I have he said to still do up/down pipe to extend the life of the motor if I am doing 300WHP. shipping to my business location is 450 bucks if I buy iAG long block. If I go with the iAG550 then I will do full exhaust at same time. Thats a 15k package min if I do it all at same time before tunning cost.

Ordering the iGA550 on Tuesday. Going to have a local shop swap it for me.
I have a vf48 turbo

565 injectors

non TGV lower intake man ( they wont install...have to be post swap )

Subaru Accessport V3

cobb Subaru 3-Port Boost Control Solenoid

AEM Electronics 50-1000 full pump

AEM CAI

Grimmspeed TMIC ( sti style )

I talked with a few suby tecs and they said that at 300whp I would have a much longer life on the motor by upgrading the Up and down pipe. Any thoughts on this?

If you had glitter in the oil, you will need new or rebuilt ACVS gears and solenoids.

Up and down pipe will help the engine breathe better but I don't see how they think it will provide more longevity. The best things you can do for longevity in that sense is to use an equal length header and a Fluidamper harmonic balancer. Both will help smooth out the engine and help reduce the overall harshness and crankshaft harmonics. Makes a big difference over the long term.

Just IMO here but IAG is way overpriced and the build quality is meh. You can get an OEM RA shortblock from Outfront, with forged pistons, for $3140. Reuse your heads, assuming they are good or buy rebuilt or even new Subie heads. Outfront has complete heads for $4000. That still puts you at almost $3000 less than IAG for a long block, just with some assembly required. That $3000 goes a long way towards all the other stuff you will need to buy and do to get the car back up and running.
