Some interesting info around a new family of 4 cylinders here. And the weird mid-engine Yaris.

Browser should translate:

In the current GR Yaris, the engine and transmission are located at the front, with power take-off (PTO) at the front sending driving force to the rear via a propeller shaft. Since most of the mechanisms are concentrated at the front, there are inevitably moments that Morizo calls "time to pray to God."
I'm not sure I understand what kind of "pray to God" situation you could get into with a front-heavy GR Four. I guess pray that your rear diff doesn't overheat and kill your flying lap?

Now let's take the Yaris M Concept. Nothing under the hood and a 4 banger in the back seat. I imagine any mid-corner lift could get you closer to God!

These new four cylinders sound extremely promising from everything I have read. Regardless of liking the GR versions of the Yaris and Corolla. I'd be much more comfortable with a four cylinder than the three.I am greatly looking forward to the vehicles these engines call home. Not so much interested in a rear mid engine Yaris. A practical car that offers performance is what I would expect from anything with a Yaris badge.

I am still glad they managed to get the G16E-GTS into a vehicle in the US market. I know it's only a matter of time before its swapped into other vehicles due to its small packaging. And I mean other than Toyota's examples. Heck with the K swapped STIs being done you may be able to put one of these three cylinders in without the engine sticking out of the hood, lol.

My assessment of the Toyotas GR Yaris/Corolla experiment is that G16 is a riot, but the lighter the host chassis the better. GR Yaris is a phenomenon. GR Corolla, 400lbs heavier is still a gem but doesn't seem to have nearly the same impact on people once they're actually driving it.

This is my long winded way of saying GR86 would be a perfect candidate for a G16 variant

I'd love to see that with an FR layout.

A lot of Aussies prefer the GRC, deeming it more “stable” and/or they like the additional room, which is stark contrast to the USDM where some bitch incessantly about the size of the car.

I could definitely see some suspension tunes being a little sketchy with the GRY. Totally stock at summit point, it was pretty wild how easily I could get my GRC to rotate on the relatively soft stock suspension with a little lift/brake to make the front bite and swing the rear around. The GRY's shorter wheelbase with more rear swaybar could definitely make for a spinny time.
