hey I gotta figure out some way to whip that ass...

In all seriousness, it would be fun to just let it loose on a frozen lake on my own to hone my skills...since I have 4 years of racing to make up for.

Don't want to start a new thread....anyone wanna suggest some studless winter tires for me? Currently running an older set of Michelin X-ice, but one of them needs to be replaced soon...and well, you know how that goes.

Been looking at the newer X-ice Xi2's, as they seem to be rated pretty high up there on tirerack. But also was looking at the Dunlop Wintersport 3D's...according to reviews, those two tires are very different from eachother.

Suggestions?

I run the X-Ice2 and I am a huge fan. They wear very well and stick nicely too. The only other tire I would consider would be a Blizzak WS-70.

Thats good enough for me. The reviews on the Xi2's are very good. Just wanted some confirmation from people using them here in this state. Thanks.

From the performance I am seeing out on the ice track***8230;.hands down... the current generation Blizzaks rock. The "newness" of the tire has a big effect***8230;.so take care of them and don't abuse them in gravel or mixed conditions. I have had to learn many expensive lessons on that front.

I'd check with Muffler City before going to Tire Rack unless you already did.

About a month ago, Muffler City was cheaper than Tire Rack on a set of X-Ice2.

I think Muffler City was like $120 less AFTER shipping costs were added.

Unless you have already firmly decided, Costco supposedly has Blizzaks on sale for just over $100 a piece plus mounting. They also use nitrogen when mounting!

General altimax arctic, studded. Same tread pattern as the Nokian hakks. Many would argue the compound materials are different. I drove a 2003 legacy at work last week with the blizzack w70's. They were good but not really comparable to the studded generals. The generals are waaaay better in all areas of performance. On snow and ice that is.

Good to know. I haven't made a purchase yet. Are you guys all talking about the ws70? Some of the reviews I was reading on them said that they do great on ice and snow, but handle iffy at best on the highway or dry pavement. Granted, the amount of dry pavement driving I do in the winter is minimal, I just felt the Xi2's seemed a little more rounded in performance.
