Anyone who wants 400whp in a street car probably hasn't felt what 300 feels like. 400 is a buttload of power. I am making 350 in my 14' WRX and it is wayyy more than enough

I'm in a situation where I have the opportunity to get a new short block and a potentially put together a build for 400-450hp. Prior to that, spent about 3k on bolt-ons that brought me to about 340hp & 360tq. Car was a lot of fun for sure. But now I'm lead to believe that I have a cracked piston. So currently, I'm canvasing different options... Keep stock block and go forged internals? Or go new short block and more power...? |

Don't do it without built short block
Just from my experience, you need to have the bottom end built if you want a reliable build. These cars just aren't made for high horsepower on a stock longblock. Beware.....

Power
Had my 15 wrx since new and spent thousands of dollars on bolt ons and tunes.I gained the most power adding a flex fuel kit and having her Pro tuned .I went from 275 hp 285 tq with bolt ons like turbo back exhaust and intake to 340 hp 327 tq with stock internals on e85 . I would say that is the most bang for your buck a 65 hp gain with just using e85 .

I'm glad that this is a big article here. Everyone I know that's just gotten a Subie falls into this stereotype perfectly and I'll definitely direct them to this forum next time I hear one of them talk about getting 400hp

You have to pay to play. What do you all think this setup will make? As soon as I mass the parts but money is flowing and I dont care about the cost.

01 2.5rs rebuild
first and foremost that was an incredibly well thought out post. i am new to the subaru world so take it easy on me lol. but this seems like the proper place to ask this question, i just recently purchased an 01 rs and am looking to rebuild the motor myself with my stepfather who has been working on cars for over 30 years im just looking for the best place to find a full rebuild kit i have seen things on ebay and other sites but i dont trust them fully especially with no reviews at all. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Making 400 is easy, keeping 400 is hard. It all depends on your turbo, fueling and tune. That's a lot of variables. 400+whp is a lot IMHO. Way beyond the driving skills of most folks.

Newbie questions
I am helping a friend who owns a 2005 "Saabaru" (Saab badged WRX wagon). He has removed the turbo and would like to replace it with a larger turbo that is essentially (if possible) a bolt on with a minimum of other changes. We have some experience with mods as he helped me install a 65mm turbo and new MAF on my Porsche. We have purchased nothing but a SS downpipe to replace the factory pipe that I bought him for his birthday. We have no knowledge of any vendors, brands, or who to consult with. I would like to find a knowledgeable shop/person to 1)buy from, and 2)provide tech support on just what we will need. BTW, the car is an auto trans. Any help that would point us in the right direction would be appreciated.

A recent noob was asking about taking an EJ3.3 to 800HP as a DD with add on forced induction. The goal of this thread is 400WHP (so a little under 500CHP). So......800HP?!?! As a DD?!?! |
