Default Just got my first Subie; a 93 Legacy Wagon!

Hey everybody, Iíve been lurking here for a while now, and just a couple weeks ago I finally jumped on an older Legacy Wagon. Itís got the cool things I really wanted, that being AWD and a manual transmission, so Iím so excited to have it!

Itís definitely a project, needing several big things done to it. But itís running and driving! Iíll post some pictures when Iíve got access to a computer, or if IMgur links are allowed, Iíve got a whole bunch uploaded on there.

Currently, these are the things I know the car needs:

1. Oil leak at the back of the engine needs to be identified and fixed (seller said itís the rear main seal, my research suggests thatís really unlikely on an EJ22 but Iím not super familiar with them yet)

2. Radiator and front crossmembers need replacing, due to a front end collision by the previous owner. Temperature is actually fine, seems to run okay and isnít leaking coolant, it just worries me a little to see the bend in the radiator. And the hood wonít latch because of the bent metal

3. Clutch slips occasionally, shifter bushings are /completely/ shot. The stick returns to center after putting it into gear because thereís so much slop, itís kind of incredible.

4. Exhaust is, well, basically not there. The muffler is completely rusted through and the O2 sensor probably needs changed since it failed emissions (high carbon monoxide). Smells a little like gas in the cabin, and I think there might be a minor leak in the headers as well.

5. Suspension is old, bushings are bad, itís not high on my priority list because itís holding up right now, but it will eventually need replaced for sure.

6. The electrical systems are... weird. Passenger side automatic seatbelt does not work, mirror controls work intermittently, cigarette lighter doesnít seem to provide power, and sometimes the passenger speakers work if you jiggle the window switch enough. So Iím assuming half the car will need rewired.

7. RUST. Itís very rusty. The doors can be saved, the rear fenders might be salvageable with enough bondo, thereís one big hole in the body that will need welding, front fenders are half gone and have to be replaced, and so on. Iím not super concerned because itís almost exclusively on the panels, but there are a couple spots of the body that I will need to repair, and Iíll need to check the frame over more thoroughly.

And then minor things, like cleaning it up and putting in a missing windshield sprayer nozzle, and wipers/tires/brakes. But once I get the basic safety stuff out of the way and then get the radiator/oil leak/exhaust fixed, itíll be my permanent daily. Iím already driving it daily with no issues so far, apart from it marking its territory everywhere I park.

So yeah, bit of a long post, Iím just super excited to get everything fixed on this car and hopefully you guys here have some tips to make each of the repairs a little easier! Thanks for reading!

Welcome Otter. This forum is loaded with info. please be sure to do your fair share of searching, but if it comes down to it and you need help, the only dumb question is the one not asked.
