Default Timing on 253 with Supercharger

I noticed that even with 93 octane (over 87) that my car requires significantly lower timing (or it will knock). than the stock vehicle had (which ran 87).

I’m trying to understand why - could it just be the iat is that much hotter? It does have a fairly efficient water IC setup. I’m worried that my timing is so low it is creating excessive heat.

The non-turbo blocks have higher compression ratios than a boost application block. 10:1 as opposed to 8:1. If you have to pull a few degrees its not bad, but they are far more prone to blowing due to knock under boost than a 205/255/257 block. Go easy on it and itll be fine.

So I’ve tuned it basically to never knock and that might be part of the problem. The stock tune in stock motor might have knocked a bit and I didn’t know it (I never looked before I started modding).

I just wouldn’t expect retarding timing at the same load/Rpm when going from 87 to 93 under light load and light boost but it could be higher IATs and also could be load/Rpm the stock car wouldn’t actually see under normal driving for example a na probably can’t do 1.0 load at 3000 rpm even if there’s a map entry for it.
