Default The first annual OFFICIAL MAIC "Year in review" thread!

Maybe I hit my head too many times snowboarding this weekend but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

2005 was an excellent year for the Mid-Atlantic Subaru enthusiasts. Gone was "teh Mid-A region", replaced with "teh MAIC chaptAr" (or "may-ick" as Jard started calling it).

Many excellent meets were had. There was free food, discounted parts and dyno pulls. (Thanks Mach V and Agile!) Patapsco once again produced many excellent foodstuffs as well as a rousing game of "handling vs horsepower" softball. (Again: thanks to RaceComp Engineering, Subaru of America, Subietuning and Wilkins Subaru!) The Subaru Challenge was once again incredibly well attended with some excellent drivers coming many miles to contribute to the fierce competition.

Many n00bs were welcomed. With these arrivals, came departures. The scourge of Canadianism is one that still plagues us, with key players like SpamMansXe departing for snowier shores.

MAIC had some exciting times in OT, which I will let others speak to, as I do not speak "otter". But Brent's "hotdog down a hallway" thread will stand as one of the classics.

In noVA, a social coordinator emerged, (teh foo!) and from that came weekly meets. No longer would the meets be at the whims of a couple people who may or may not remember to meet in the parking lot at BJ's. Several restaurants emerged as crowd favorites, with the Buffalo Wing Factory being possibly the most notable. The Flatliner came to be a silly peer pressure trick that would bring amusement and smiles to many (but pain and suffering to few).

Anyhoo - it's been a fun year. It constantly reminds me that NASIOC was one of the reasons I bought a WRX in the first place.

*schniff* I love you guys!

So, please use this thread as a forum to ruminate on all the highlights and lowlights of 2005. Please include URL's where appropriate

Sniff, sniff...thanks! I promise to eat more flatliners in 2006!!!

I was thinking along the lines of a "what happened in 2005" thread. Things like giving props to those individuals and vendors that have made the Mid-A a better place. Also of special note was the creation of a couple of few new moderators who were amongst the top of my list. Kudos to Tim, John, and Bob.

I've still yet to venture to an HR meet, but hold a special place for many of the cool guys from Va Beach/HR. The PA guys haven't been coming down as often since they got real jobs (boo, hiss!). As usual, the meets have rocked in NOVA and the DCAWD ones. I'm sure HR is showing us up, but I can't attest to their asshattery. Hopefully I'll meet more folks from the B'more and Delaware locales.

Also, I got into autocrossing this year and had such a blast! I give big props to the folks in SCCA and Capital Driving Club....you know who you are. Some are not on NASIOC, but play an important role in weekend fun.

thanks all and see more of you in 2006!

Yeah but people will never let me forget about it. 2005 was just another year that people laughed at me.

I managed to go through one RS and now have a Legacy. 2 Subarus are 1 less than the 3 I owned over the course of 2004.

And I made it ANOTHER year without attending a meet.

Default Mach V Year In Pictures

We had an eventful year!

It started off with the Tokyo Auto Salon.

We also hit the IAS show in Atlantic City...

...and the SEMA Show:

We had a couple of excellent meets, and a bunch of well-attended dyno days.

We held the Second Annual Mach V Track Day...

...attended the Subaru Challenge...

And, I bought my first-ever new Subaru.

We added tons of new products, including APS stuff, Cobb AccessPort tuning, Cosworth parts, Swift suspension, Whiteline, and a bunch more I can't even think of right now.

We gained a great new employee, Brian. We met a lot of cool new customers, too, and renewed our acquaintance with some long-time customers.

We look forward to another exciting year! Peace and happy holidays. Drive safely.
