1999 Subaru outback sport trunk problem
hi just got asubaru with about 126000 miles. We noticed that even at the dealer lot, every time we hit a bump there is a noise as though something his hittin the window.. Anyone got ANY ideas on what it could be.... its like rattle against the glass.. thanks

If possible, have someone sit back there while you drive over bumps to pin it down. Another possibility is a rear shoulder belt latch hitting the window, a bad latch on the lift gate itself, etc.

it does not have a rear spoiler, the liftgate arms seem very wiggly they can be moved side to side..... the wiper arm i belive is tight but not sure... im thinking it could be the arms... thanks

It's the latch on the liftgate!
I have a similar problem with my '99 Outback Sport. I think I have narrowed it down to the liftgate latch. Try this ... Take everything out or the back of the car (the jack, the spare, everything). Open the hatch and slam the rear driver's side door really hard. See if you hear the same sound. Now close the hatch and try it again. I was able to hear it from outside of the car.

There is a small amount of adjustment in the latch and you can shim the rubber dampers that the hatch rests on to tighten it. It worked for me. |
