My friend was super excited that his parents bought him a Jeep Liberty. Told him that it was a girl's car (sooooo many girls drive them at my school) and he said that it was "better than your Subie." On what planet?! Refused to argue because arguing with ignorant people doesn't get you anywhere...

Ocean city cruise in this weekend. "Do a burnout" "your car sucks" "oh it's got mudflaps and a tow hook must be fast!" All of these come from people on the sidewalk or kids in the back of trucks. I don't get it.

I went to cruise week in ocean city tho weekend also. I have a 2013 wrx and a Nissan maxima. When u get a crowd of American muscle car fans you aren't going to get much respect for a Japanese sports car , even though it is better engineered and built and amazingly fast . I had to laugh as the cars were doing burnouts on the wet streets and slipping all over and fishtailing everywhere. To each his own , I guess. For me , u can't beat the Japanese at car building

Him: woa this things standard?! I dont even know how to drive those Me: ya its the only way to go, makes it more fun to drive Him: *looking at boost gauge* what! You have a speedometer up there too?! Me: *laughing to myself* no its called a boost gauge it tells me how much pressure my turbo is putting out. He looked confused then just stopped talking. I thought it was just funny how excited he was |

Not something that was said but this morning driving thru seattle a younger guy was hanging out the window and frantically trying to take pictures of my car. Definitely got a good chuckle from the panicked look of it all.

I think it's funny how our relatively modestly priced car (wrx) gets all kind of cool/wow looks and admirers, even from some people with more expensive cars.

I gave my boss (structural engineering firm) a ride in my WRX the other week up to a construction site and he was acting like a little kid. Just amazed how much I've done to the car, that I've done all the wrench work and all the of research myself, and how much I knew about cars.
When I told him how much hp it previously had, and what it has now, he goes "gtfo of here!" ...which was right about the time the road opened up and I was able to punch it in 2nd and row through the gears. When he finally stops laughing / cursing he goes, "You know, I used to be just like you. I don't know what happened... This thing is ridiculous though." |

Similarly, he jokes that I've taken to our 3d modeling & analysis software like it's a video game, and I tell him, "well, I've played and modified a lot of video games in my day." Got to love turning the conventional wisdom on its head, ("video games are a waste of time", etc.) Sometimes I worry he's going to think I've missed my calling as a race car engineer or something. The really tricky part is actually being efficient and making money as a consultant; it can't all be academia and perfect answers! |

Not really funny. but this was a first for me.
Yesterday while I was at the VA for my PTSD therapy, my Doc and I got a "little" side tracked well not really we were talking about my road rage. Doc: you mean your little rice burner? referring to my 2012 WRX Me: wow doc that's not a civic with a fart can in the back Doc: what is it? Me: Subaru WRX Doc: oh ok Therapy goes on...... when leaving the VA the Doc was walking to his "PRIUS" as I drive by, and I lower my window. and give a "little" gas Doc: wow I'm sorry, that sounds nothing like a rice burner. Me: I told you so. Doc: I'm sorry, that's a really nice car. now lets keep that road rage in check. shall we? Me: you got it doc!!! |

The correct response was to say, "**** you!" and speed off. Although that might've set you back a few weeks in therapy. |
